!@#$%^&*le almost says it all.

I've tried every single version of Continuum/subspace available (38, 39pr1, 0.40) but every time continuum uses 100% of cpu, then closes, then 2 other continuum processes open, they close within less than a second.

I can't kill the process since it closes & opens too quickly. All I can do is a loggoff then on again or restart.

This happens on BOTH of my computer, even if I kill all non-essential processes.

Help!

Try this:

Fix to this issue:

Windows XP Data Execution Protection

Open up DEP and see if you have 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only', if so, check 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select'. Next add Continuum.exe to the list, and apply. Than you can go back to 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only' if you'd like, and it will load fine.

(You can find the DEP properties at the Data Execution Prevention tab in System Properties.)

If this doesn't solve the problem, post every anti-virus / firewall / anti-spam / protection program you have running on your pc.

Sorry, I misspoke. I put continuum as an exception to DEP so it should work.

I'm using NOD32. I also tried it with kaspersky 6.0 but same thing. I've turned off all AVs before and it still happens.

Yes, it's possible to completely turn it off. (I mentioned it in another thread, but I'm too lazy to find it)

Usually, if DEP is configured properly, an error message should appear if you try to run Continuum and it disallows it.

Here's what I recommend:

1. Delete ALL Continuum related files.

2. Run an anti-virus scan, and run a registry cleaner (e.g. Eusing's registry cleaner)

3. Reboot Computer

4. Log onto an account with aministrator rights

5. Install Continuum from here, into C:\Program Files\

6. Make sure all anti-viruses or firewalls have been disabled (yes, including Windows' built-in firewall)

7. Now start Continuum, and post your results back onto this forum.

From your posts, I take it that you're running Windows XP SP2, and that most likely your installs were corrupted.

Hakaku,

I did all of that and the problem still occurs. !@#$%^&*, I even turned off DEP completely (using boot.ini hack) but it still crashes like always on two different computers.

your computer might just be incompatible (however unlikely)... ever thought of that?

Edit: Re-do above steps, but see what happens if you right click on the install file, and click Run As... administrator..

It has run on both of my computers before. I have no idea what changed.

I am running as admin, but i'll do what you suggested and post back.

maybe running in compatibility mode might help too. let me know if you want to try this...

Tried that too. Didn't work in 95/98/ME/2000 compat. mode.

I have no software firewall (XP disabled) but I do have a hardware. I'll try DMZ'ing the comp and see what happens.

what is your CPU Usage before you start the game?

Other then your oc what is running on your pc right now?

Look at you memory to see if its in place (is it insertered right)

Do you have enough memory?

Have you bumped (banged) your PC/Laptop?

Have you d/l any new screen savers? (There are some bad ones out there) If so use the one that comes with xp

Why i ask this "i have d/l this game on diff PC and it works all the time.

Safe mode with Networking

It worked in safe mode with networking! I can't believe it. :(

1) CPU usage is hovering around 10% for other processes

2) When I open the game, it doesn't even show the window. When I have time a little later, I'll take a video of it. The process just starts, quits, starts quits, starts quits, starts, etc. and takes 100% of cpu while it's doing that.

OC? Overclock? My laptop is not overclocked. Here are the processes working RIGHT NOW. Please note that I closed all programs when I started Continuum, but it still happened: http://ep1nephrine911.info/cm.JPG

Yes, it is. Also, please remember it happens on BOTH my comps - laptop and server.

Do you have enough memory?

Yes, 1.5GB in laptop, 1gb in server

Have you bumped (banged) your PC/Laptop?

No, never, either comp.

Have you d/l any new screen savers? (There are some bad ones out there) If so use the one that comes with xp

No, I don't use screen savers. I just turn my monitor off after 3 min. Believe it or not, I'm actually a minimalist when it comes to processes and stuff

I'm thinking this is a driver issue somewhere. I don't think it's video card, since my server has the same problem. I use mostly portable apps, but here are the apps I INSTALLED:

Altiris Software Virtualization Agent

Daemon Tools

Hamachi

KAV Personal 6 (license expired, so I bought NOD32 instead)

Office 2007

Photocopier Pro

Sandboxie

TrueLaunchBar

Unlocker

Winternals Admin Pack

Try disabling some startup services and programs.. trial and error until you find what's causing it to hang like that

Heres how i got it to hang. I left the game shortcut the way it was on my Desktop.

Then i moved the game folder to a diff place on my PC (with out changing the shortcut or adding another)

And when i clicked the the game icon it did nothing.
