Yoink Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 I'm sure this question gets asked all of the time, but I can't find an answer anywhere. How much bandwidth does a zone use? Worst case scenario? Thanks .
rootbear75 Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 probably would be fine on a business cable/broadband modem
Confess Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) It depends on several aspects. - How many people are playing?- How big are the zone files?- How often will zone files be downloaded/at what size/per person?- How much activity is going on? (firing, etc)- Several other factors To put things into perspective though: Trenchwars uses about 1200-2000GB/m. When SSCB was around, Altec reported usage of around 200GB/m for all zones (RS, Halo, Paintball, and some others). When HS was on SSCI-A, it was using around ~150GB/m (i believe). All in all, it varies. Why do you have this in mind? ------------- Oops just saw the 30-60 population thing. I'd say around 100-300GB of bandwidth off the top of my head. 2pac Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 man i ran a nice pop of like 10 ppl on my 56k modem back in the days
candygirl Posted September 29, 2007 Report Posted September 29, 2007 man i ran a nice pop of like 10 ppl on my 56k modem back in the days Must have been laggy as !@#$%^&* lol
»CypherJF Posted September 29, 2007 Report Posted September 29, 2007 I used to be able to host 4 people on the 56k without too much lag, after that the lag grew exponentially.

»freakmonger Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 probably would be fine on a business cable/broadband modem You can't host a zone decently with that kind of connection
rootbear75 Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 he said around 30-60 people... what does DS run on? or MG? they have that kind of average population
»freakmonger Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Pentium 3.0ghz1024 megs of memory200 gig hard drive.Windows 2003 Server edition.Full duplex 100 megabit port. Monthlyhttp://metalgearctf.net/graphs/monthly.png Yearlyhttp://metalgearctf.net/graphs/yearly.png
PoLiX Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Going off his Yearly avg of 800kbps ( Kb/s) you'd transfer ~6gb a day. So rougly 180gb a month. This (although ignoring low times, pop bursts, etc) should give you a pretty good guess.
»Maverick Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 180 GB per month.. way more then I would have imagined but.. how many zones is SSCC hosting?
