Hakaku Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Still, what Deva has that is unique is our credits system (win the jackpot, win credits, use credits, buy items, win & own, gain jackpot). Ok, perhaps it's not the most original idea, but the buyables are designed to be useless fun, rather than compe!@#$%^&*ive upgrades. HS is a nice zone, but it's had its up and downs, and overall is not entirely newbie-friendly. The other reason why we cannot emulate HS, is the fact that we're not an ASSS zone. (we have one in-development, but it's not gone far, and with a lack of good programmers, the idea has gone out the window). We also have weekly megajackpots. It's not the fact that the MJ has gone stale, but rather there's no mod around to start it on Saturday, stay and play some, so no one's motivated to show up Quote
the_accountant Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 lol, havent solved my computer problems, but I gave up a while ago. Probably won't be on again.. in a long time. This should make my bud JDS happy I think I must've screwed over some internet setting at some point, and right now figuring it out isn't a priority. Quote
No_Remorse Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 T_A, you will be missed. (tell me your alias in game) LOLLLL at Red Star. I'm pretty sure that is dead, or on life support. You could also include Fusion, which I personally think is some sort of EG/Redstar/SWZ hybrid(Mostly RS). Hak, I was going to elaborate more but people tend to by-p!@#$%^&* long-winded posts. Creds are unique enough and Deva has original settings, bases, tilesets, map layouts etc... I was only using it as an example that there will always be something that is "borrowed" from existing or past zones. I will make it a priority to have more of a presence in Deva than I have for the last month or so. I just get irritated that even when people are online, it is usually a spec reunion of some sort. Quote
JDS Posted October 2, 2007 Author Report Posted October 2, 2007 dont be irritated at me, i sit in spec all day and wait for people, then when they do show up, i do the esc 2, and they still sit i dont get it considering they just show up for a few hours and do nothing but spec Quote
XDOOM Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 I agree that something radical needs to be done. I've always stressed trying to shrink the map, the number of bases, and condense the gameplay in order to make things more exciting. I have also stressed getting statistics set up, and getting new things going in pub (and not just having subarenas). The biggest problem are the hard-core people that I rely on (tm_master and SOS). Realistically, without them the zone is nothing, however with them making these changes is impossible. Now tm_master has done a lot for this zone, he has kept it going and has done a better job keeping players then I ever could, but keeping this style of gameplay doesn't work. Here are my 10 suggestions: 1. Smaller arena - maintain the closeness - and possibly just have much smaller single area bases within close proximity to the center area where you are basically flagging and just killing2. KOTH in public - gets you bonus points3. Shrink Jackpot sizes such that they match point levels retrieved from killing4. No Flag Neuting - basically since the map is super small and there are no longer large bases the flag carrier has to try to last with their team to get the points5. Get SOS to make bot that can keep track of scores and upload them to website (He doesn't want to)6. Reduce the number of flags to less than 10 (i'm thinking 5)7. Give a bonus to flag carriers (more speed, more power, level 4 bombs/bullets - I dont know what setting would work best).8. Go back to the tileset I had before SOS changed the maps back9. Give special awards/prizes (like extra credits) to top 5 players in score10. Start playing even when tm isn't around. Basically, this combines everything good in deva and really adds to the compe!@#$%^&*iveness that you can get high scores by not winning flag games all the time. Heres the problem: I don;t have time to do something like that, i'm always too busy. So, if you like this idea (*Cough* JDS *cough*) make a subarena with map, settings, etc, and lets get something going - and get TM impressed with the idea by having all of us in this topic actually come to the zone all at the same time during normal hours to get more people interested!!!!! Quote
the_accountant Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 I like the condensed map, people can't just run and hide. It will take some skill to rec. Also, there needs to be compe!@#$%^&*ion in the zone. In deva it's usually like everyone is buddies and they all help eachother and win together. In most zones the players ignore the newbs and the newbs actually have to work their way into the community. We're so desperate for new players that we are helping them with everything and explaining it all to them while thinking "please stay". I'm not saying we should just be jerks and piss them off, but we do need to be competetive and let them learn on their own by observing and trying new things. Quote
JDS Posted October 3, 2007 Author Report Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) I'll try the list out, xdoom. see what i can come up w/ Edited October 3, 2007 by JDS Quote
XDOOM Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 I'll try the list out, xdoom. see what i can come up w/ Just tell me if you need anything Quote
JDS Posted October 3, 2007 Author Report Posted October 3, 2007 8. Go back to the tileset I had before SOS changed the maps back not sure if you saw the thread where i had a tileset, im pretty sure thats the same one you were talking about.. i would hope so since thats the one i use for everything Quote
ra$ta420 Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 we need like everyone on there own freq than if people want to base/or more than 3 are playing we can start a game.nobody wants to base while some want to dog fight.. Even some times if someone gets a flag game going,if just one person quits or specs the game dies and everyone esc qs. Quote
XDOOM Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 I think with my suggestions, I would bring back private freqs, and allow freqs/ with a max 5 person limit. Quote
»1587200 Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 If you want a new map, get S!@#$%^&* to make one for you. sassy's map + Deva sets = Gold. It might take some convincing though... Quote
ra$ta420 Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Even some times if someone gets a flag game going,if just one person quits or specs the game dies and everyone esc qs. ya I know i am quoteing my self.Just last night we had a 2v2 going, one person quits next thing i know the zone is all in spec. Quote
Hakaku Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 So true... I had a 1 on 1 on 2 just two nights ago, but people come and go so quickly... so it'd be 4, then 3, 4, 3, 2, 3, Hakaku goes to bed, 2... and I imagine shortly after 0. Quote
»SOS Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Eww, don't go back to that crappy tileset Quote
JDS Posted October 18, 2007 Author Report Posted October 18, 2007 yar , this current one is crappy Quote
Avast Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I kind of never liked playing for three hours straight, helping to raise a large jackpot and then having to log off because no one wants to win. Its like I wasted three hours. Quote
JDS Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 exactly, and the only argument you can bring up against that ^^ is 'oh it was fun.. yep fun' it may have been fun but still catagorized as a waste of time Quote
No_Remorse Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I would place pre-mature winning in the Reason for Everyone Speccing Afterwards category. Quote
XDOOM Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Maybe we should bring back private freqs of 5 people maximum - so if you want to win - you can make your own team and go for it. Quote
JDS Posted November 6, 2007 Author Report Posted November 6, 2007 (edited) priv freqs were always good they could be REALLY anoying though Edited November 6, 2007 by JDS Quote
Gibbit Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 I can easily see like 5 ppl in deva ALL on private freqs, then it'll be hard to get them to team up and start a flag game Quote
XDOOM Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 !buy freq Goes back to my idea for the bot A player has to buy their way onto a private freq - meaning they need credits - meaning they need to flag to earn those credits. Could make it a fair cost - 10-15 million credits - and you stay on the freq for as long as you dont leave it (whether due to you speccing, lagging out, etc). Quote
JDS Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 could there be a way to have other people join the freq you bought? Quote
