sertse Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 (edited) Has anyone else seen it? Its been there for a while now (more than a few months at least), hopefully I'm not the only one that saw it... Basically, its a simple "how to play" guide..instructions are placed on the map and you basically follow the directions. Anyways, I wondering if DSB has any plans...to make that public property? (to be copied/make additions/be adapted to thier own zones) I just think all zones would benefit having something like that as one of thier maps as something to direct newbies to... Its probably one of the best tutorials I've seen...and despite being in DSB, it isn't zone specific. And unlike issues surrounding the copying of most arenas, this map isn't really a "selling feature" for DSB specifically, as in a unique reason to come and play DSB. I also might as well put it out in the open as well, since someone might of found something even better somewhere. Anyone find any good tutorial maps? Edited September 23, 2007 by Sertse
rootbear75 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 or possibly make a zone called SSCx Tutorial
»Maverick Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 it isn't zone specificCustom (DSB-specific) shipset and HUD icons are used in the tutorial.
Slicer Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Your welcome to the Mystic Kingdom tutorial system
sertse Posted September 23, 2007 Author Report Posted September 23, 2007 (edited) Mav: Point taken, but I'm more referring to that fact it isn't "zone specific" doesn't introducing the "DSB specific" game, rather what is learnt by the player there can be used for the vast majority of zones. And yeah, short of SSC Tutorial, I'm kinda pushing that to be the standard tut map.. Edited September 24, 2007 by Sertse
Gravitron Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 I've seen a "tutorial" in a zone before, I believe. It was crap. The game engine is not sufficiently technologically advanced to permit any proper implementation of an interactive, adaquate, tutorial system. For such a purpose, the VIE client even performs to a better degree of success.
»Maverick Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Just saying some tutorial you've seen is crap and the client isn't sufficient really doesn't help in this discussion. Have you found a better or different tutorial-like manual somewhere? I think you can recreate the original Subspace tutorial with bots but it takes a whole lot of time and effort to make such a thing work.
LiDDiS Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 ASSS could be made to do some cool tutorial stuff probably

Smong Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 One reason why tutorial/play offline isn't in cont is because that would make it easier to practise cheating (sure you can setup a local test zone, but a lot of people have trouble doing that).
Gravitron Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 (edited) ...but it takes a whole lot of time and effort to make such a thing work. And this be exactly where this entire community fails - a mountain of lazyness; also the reason the game looks in such a pathetic shape. If you could get a hold on a decent record (if such exists), create a video. It may not be interactive, but at least it'll be precise and extensive. JDS Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 ... yea and when i was new i really needed a tutorial to teach me how to fly a 2d space ship only an idiot would need a subspace tutorial
Smong Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 I just went to the arena and there are 3 images in the range of 10,000 px wide, these images don't display properly on my computer, so other players may also have problems with them.
Hoch Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 I'll be sure to tell the creator of the tutorial, Chalk Eagle, thatyou like it -Hoch
