froot Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 hay i'm trying to get POP3 for my hotmail so that i can retrieve that mail on my gmail i was googling a little and found something called pop3hot.com, but that's a one month trial kinda thing anyone know of anything that isn't just a free trial?
PoLiX Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Nope. Hotmail has never had pop3. Although Outlook use to have a special config just for hotmail's http access for e-mail, but yeah. The pop3hot.com, I dunno how much I'd trust, but I have heard it is in MSN's line of fire.
froot Posted September 23, 2007 Author Report Posted September 23, 2007 GetMail is supposed to work. i dled that, and that required python so i dled that as well, despite not knowing the slightest idea how to code. now that i have both, i've no idea how to install the thing. i've clicked on the "setup.py" file and i tried putting the command which apparently works 99.9% of the time in. Installing getmail For the impatient Installing getmail is very easy; just download the tarball distribution, unpack it, change into the directory it unpacks into, and run this command: $ python setup.py install That's all there is to it. 99.9% of users don't need a special package/port/etc. so again, i unzipped it, clicked the setup.py file and then tried that command in my python, which gave me syntax errors i'm probably making some kind of embarr!@#$%^&*ing mistake, but i'll attach the do!@#$%^&*entation for you guysdocumentation.txt
Samapico Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 You 'can' have your hotmail account on Outlook... but that's not really POP3... though it's as useful and efficient You need to upgrade your hotmail account to Windows Live Mail (free), ... and then, well technically you need to get Outlook connector... But for some reason on my computer it works fine without it... But since you want to get that on your gmail... nvm
froot Posted September 23, 2007 Author Report Posted September 23, 2007 can you please help me try and get GetMail up and running?

rootbear75 Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 i wanna know how to get pop3 for my VCU email... of course none of you can help me with that...
Samapico Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 you can't have pop3 with hotmail... unless you pay for it But I'm pretty sure you could setup something in your account to forward the emails... probably in rules or filters or something
froot Posted September 26, 2007 Author Report Posted September 26, 2007 tough for me my live mail is in dutch, even though i don't know a word of it. a friend gave me a live.nl accuont so that i could get froot. but, i've checked out my english one too, can't seem to find filters
Hakaku Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Live Mail:click OPTIONSselect MORE OPTIONS...Under "MANAGE YOUR ACCOUNT" select "Forward mail to another e-mail account "Add an e-mail to forward it to. Even if you have a dutch account, you can change the setting under:"Customize your mail Select language "
Ganjaman USS Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 wow, after you made that post I logged in to check on my UK live account and sure enough the option has been very quietly added in there. Weird man ! 10 years and they just slip it in like that. Finally !
froot Posted September 26, 2007 Author Report Posted September 26, 2007 You're only able to forward mail to a custom domain or an e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, or live.com. Please try again. lmfao
