I don't really see this as "hope" lol.

I mean there have been times where the 17th has spiked to over 20 or 30 people for a short time in a year and a half, and nothing comes of it.

There is just nothing to keep players in the 17th anymore.

90% of the "vets" were almost strictly playing events even with the 17th having a good population.

For all intensive purposes the 17th parallel is dead. Going foward this zone is going to have, if it can get off the ground, everything new, including a new population, masquerading as the 17th.

Don't speak of such heresy. I would consider myself a vet as I have played 17th for many many years and not included in any of these little events. I play 17th for the shipsets and map. Thus changing it would force me to leave once again.

The idea of totally starting from scratch will not always leave positive results, if anything it will leave yet another empty zone on the list. mega_shok.gif

lol if you haven't noticed the map and the shipsets have changed....also 17th has just been another empty zone on the list, for the most part.

17th's strongest population has always been its event population. The highest the zone has ever gotten in population was when JWL season I, maybe Season II I don't recall exactly back then, and DL were running simultaneaously. As soon as the leagues were over, the population then dispersed.

Its a simple fact, the majority of 17ths population has moved on to different games/zones, and the majority of those who haven't, are the league/event vets. Even if you can get them to stay in the zone for a week or two, even say a month, the reason why most of them became "leagers" is because pub in the 17th had lost its fun a long time ago.

I'm not saying that delic will fail or succeed, but no matter the outcome, just don't think its still going to be the 17th that you remember, it will be, in everything but the name, a completely different zone.

The 17th events may have drawn the high majority of the population but a vibrant pub population came too and as always my fondest 17th memories go back to that pub that we played in the other day (albiet slightly different settings and map). It came down to a conflict of interests in the past. But as for now, a rise is always some hope that theres interest in the zone.

I think in retrospect it was sometimes a bad thing to hold an event during a high population pub. That division created an imbalance between pub and events, old and new. To much Yin or to much Yang = not good. Combine those with equal oomph = Woot.

You get to much of one the other dies and people leave. If 17th ever lives again there needs to be an agreement between non-biased people on how the zone should be ran, with a common goal - and SS itself needs a MAJOR facelift, i hate this 10 year old same !@#$%^&*. New ships, graphics, weapons please.

Balance people, balance. Rise in pop good. More fizz please.

P.S. And if people are biased, then a common goal still must be set, with respect for each others ideas.

To over-analyse 17th with a complete history, an outline for major changes that require huge amounts of man-power but which he will do nothing about, at least one analogy to make even the most hard-core conservatives go "ahh i see what you mean", plenty of regurgitated philosophical jargon... and all from a position of hippy self-righteousness. That's why.... or what. Umm, why?

I'm going to have to go with veg on this. Yes.. cord is alive and decided to read ssforum. Anyway, even when me and emb were running the zone, we would get 30+ at times, but we had to go through chats, talk to people we knew in other zones, and contacting vets, saying "we are gonna have an event tonight and a public game". People don't just "show up" randomly anymore like they used to when there was events going on daily and there were people to host them. While players did come and play public some when we were at the helm, it was mainly people who were either ad'd to, or people who were hoping to play one of our nightly events like sblball or javwar.

I wish we could get those events going again, because after they occur, people play pub for at least half an hour or so and you can take screenshots (I know I, and probably most of you, have several of different pubs and events that have anywhere from 25-38 people) ;)
