DAT files - Still being used?

Does the current billing server (or any others) even use these anymore? I'm writing a multi-file type editor and want to know how much time I should invest in these billing (squad.dat, user.dat, score.dat) file editors.

The .dat files are used, but it's no biggy since no one really cares to read them. They just store user, squad and score information for the biller.
