MaxTheHitman Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 !@#$%^&*o First time ever to happen to me that the this game doesn't even start up after several attempts. I even tried to change the version of the game, but still continuum won't open at all....I thought it was a directx problem because I had DX9.0b and after a couple of search converted it to DX9.oc and still this game doesn't even work!.I have no clue what the problem is now and don't know how to solve.I Tried installing other games such as Wolfenstein enemy territory and worked.but when I installed unreal tournament99 didn't worked..it only gave me a black screen then went back to windows..Since UT has a safe mode option I tried disabling everything and the game worked but when I enabled everything except the sound hardware I had the same problem couldn't load the screen. Would that be the problem why continuum wouldn't start up ?any solutions ??? Im using Win XP here service pack 2
Hakaku Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Erm... I have no clue what you just half said, but Continuum is so old, you only need Direct X3 And we're not an all-around game support forum, so UT, wolfenstein are irrelevant... Is Continuum able to start up? Or can you not enter a zone (as in, your screen is messed up)?
MaxTheHitman Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) sorry if I was confusing in first post. Yes continuum is able to start up only in Safe mode just tested right now,but in normal mode it won't start Edited August 17, 2007 by MaxTheHitman
Hakaku Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 You mean you booted up your computer in safe mode just to see if Continuum works? If that's the case, you have a firewall blocking Continuum. Try disabling it and see.
»Maverick Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 In safe mode your virusscanner/firewall/anti-adware might be disabled. Try disabling any of those in normal mode and see if the game runs.
MaxTheHitman Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) unfortunately I tried all of this disabling antivirus, firewall, disabling sound...... none works......Iam pretty sure its the soundcard from the motherboard! Edited August 17, 2007 by MaxTheHitman
»Maverick Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Run 'dxdiag' and see if you can find any problems using that tool
MaxTheHitman Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 lets see here are the tabs: Direct X files:1)the file qasf.dll is an old version, which could cause problems 2)you should reinstall directx to get the latest version (I currently have 9.0b and changed it to 9.0C still no difference but the 1 and 2 disappeared though...) Display:says my card is not digitally signed (but thats not the problemo..downloaded drivers 93.71 nvidia and still the game didn't open) sound :Direct sound all tests were successful I tried updating the drivers for the Realtek 97 but still doesn't work .. I attached 2 files one in safe mode the game opens and one in normal mode nothing happens at all
»Maverick Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Odd... :-/ Some more things you can try - start Continuum 0.38 instead of 0.39pr1?Reinstall?
MaxTheHitman Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 I tried that cont .38 didn't work.... What I will do now is update my windows cause it was reformated 3 days ago.......and see if works after I install the updates
rootbear75 Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 next thing you could try is asking Polix of one of them for the Beta version... it has a lot of bug fixes in it... i doubt it will work, but you never know...
MaxTheHitman Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 yeah maybe if a new beta comes out......well what I did today was searching the sound driver problem and it turns out that the sounddriver realtek does crash the game and they manufacturer made a new software and I downloaded it and yet no hope at all.... for the time being I will play wolfenstein enemy territory....best game that's working right now ....
rootbear75 Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 new beta is out... like i said, ask polix, and let him know your issues
MaxTheHitman Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) hey guys check this out by absolute chaos : (second paragraph third line) EDITOk so thats not the cause, but i think im close, i ran a reg cleaner, error killer, after i ran it the game started doing it again, so i restored the registry from a backup i made before running it and it worked fine again, so the problem must be with a registry key that most likely gets taken out by some reg cleaners, gonna see if i can figure out which one it is. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well i was getting the bit where contiuum wouldnt load and would just hop around the task manager using up 100% cpu on this computer, a little while ago i bought a new sound card, ever since then its worked problem free. I think the issue may have something to do with the lightning sound when you start continuum, before i bought this card i was just using the onboard Realtek AC 97, so i think it has something to do with the onboard card and most likely that opening lightning sound. I havent tried this cuz i dont feel like uninstalling the card but perhaps getting rid of that sound would solve the problem if you dont feel like simply getting a new sound car, which, if your running onbaord, you should aways as they sap your cpu cycles. Anyways, hope that helps! Best RegardsAC Hey guys I tested the creative sound blaster and still didn't even work.......................maybe its the vista tranformation pack ? MaxTheHitman Posted August 18, 2007 Author Report Posted August 18, 2007 hey time to own got the game running !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tcsoccerman Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 You should probably post how you got it to work for future reference
MaxTheHitman Posted August 18, 2007 Author Report Posted August 18, 2007 (edited) hi sorry for that....................ok the solution ?????? at first I thought it was the audio Realtek(inbuilt motherboard card )issue but turned something different than I even expected..The windows files were changed and even when I removed the Vista transformation pack 6.0 for windows XP still both games Continuum and UT still didn't work.......+ direct 9.0b (never get 9.0B cause some games sux and don't accept B and prefer a C version) The solution?had to reinstall XP so to get back the original files + DX9.0c right............ thats it............ End point... continuum doesn't work on 9.0b!!!!!!!! Edited August 18, 2007 by MaxTheHitman
