»freakmonger Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 The general population doesn't cheat. The general population doesn't even deal with cheaters. The general population wants new features and new stuff to play with. Instead, they get a 3-5mb download so cheating can be stopped for a few weeks. Why should we all get excited about that again? You are correct. But nothing short of a threat to take down TW, or kill the population of TW would get Priitk out of afkland for an update. So an update for new features will more than likley never happen Although that would be great.
PoLiX Posted August 20, 2007 Author Report Posted August 20, 2007 There was a few minor updates besides bugs and cheats, but this is what priit had been working on. .38 is full of bugs, so .39pr1 was released, and noone complained bout that. .39pr1 and pr3 are full of bugs, so .39 or .40 will be released, and you talk people will complain. The general populous has spent more time e-mailing me wanting to test it than they have probably spent playing. 400+ E-mails in my inbox can prove that. Only 20-30 players recieved .39 Beta, and will, yet more and more still want it. So I think there is more of a want than you'd think for some sort of progress.
»CypherJF Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 Is there such a mad rash of cheating going on which warrants a new client to be released? I agree with Cerium's previous post here. Zone's have done a fine job of banning cheaters as-is, and yes it's nice to have a few bug fixes but the game play needs to be seriously revisited. Not to mention the 100+ items on the SS tracker which might want to be looked at.
PoLiX Posted August 20, 2007 Author Report Posted August 20, 2007 Zone's did a fine job controlling twister. But we still found need to put it to a stop.
PoLiX Posted August 20, 2007 Author Report Posted August 20, 2007 Anyways, I replied to Cerium in pm, and gave him my reasons and input. To the Rest: .38 = Bugged. 39pr1 = Attempt 1 to fix. 39pr2 = Attempt 2 to fix. 39pr3 = A lot fixed. 39 Beta = Pretty much all bugs fixed This was the main focus. Cheats, well, you can never stop cheats, but you can control them a lot better. But my focus was compiling bug info for Priit, and so was GS's. We'd like to test the cheat control, since priit took the time many years ago to code it in (he had a lot of dev done on .39 actually), and it was worth seeing how his new updates to it worked. All for now... bed time
»Maverick Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 yup, with the bugs in the current client banning players is just like keeping a floor dry while the water tap is open. Also, the banned players are finding ways around BanG.For the few that don't know about it, there's even a forum out there explaining how to cheat in Continuum and providing programs which make it even easier. This needs to stop. Getting the client updated to stop this is already a step forwards because nothing has happened the last 3 years. On the other hand, Cerium is correct, the update isn't really interesting for non-staff but as we all know, the solution to that is unreachable.
Hakaku Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 (edited) To clarify:Continuum 0.39 pre-release 3This version, which included a minor fix and a new packet sending flaw, is currently unsupported and discontinued. More information here-fixed certain game manipulations. Continuum 0.39 pre-release 2This version was never released publicly because by the time Priit was about to release it, he had already begun with 0.39pr3. More information here. Continuum 0.39 pre-release 1 (current client)-fixed proximity bomb bug introduced in 0.38-fixed crash in some systems few seconds after entering zoneThat's the summary of the prerelease updates. The prereleases never had a fan club because 1) the updates were minor and affected no one, and 2) didn't come almost 5 years later. Pr1 was just recently popularized by the rising amount of ASSS zones. You could say that 0.38 was full of bugs, but less bugs than 0.37 and more tangible features were added. And I have no one to disagree with on this thread. 0.39 is a nice update, especially for XP users, but no one else will seriously benefit from it except maybe zone staff. In sum, unlike the other official releases, 0.39 offers a lot less updates, and I would even go as far as considering it just prerelease 4. Edited August 20, 2007 by Hakaku
emaho Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 (edited) We have been waiting for this a while now. I guess we can wait some more. It's not like Priitk and the guys owe us anything.. I'm still very impressed and excited. Good job! Edited August 20, 2007 by emaho
Gravitron Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 The amount of effort Ghost Ship has put into this, getting a hold of priit, and pushing and pushing for this (I've been updated along the way the past 6 months), and all you can still do is !@#$%^&* about something. The general population doesn't cheat. The general population doesn't even deal with cheaters. The general population wants new features and new stuff to play with. Instead, they get a 3-5mb download so cheating can be stopped for a few weeks. Why should we all get excited about that again? So far, Hakaku has the best post in this thread:I'm not down' date=' if anything I'm happy at least something is going to be fixed. But I'm not gonna run around and say "YAY AN UPDATE". I'll state the truth, and stick to that.[/quote'] Alex been pushing for the wrong direction. He should be pushing for shutting down this entire god!@#$%^&* circus, abandoning continuum, and getting all you lazy bozos who vulture around here for no reason to collaborate on redeveloping the game with our own code that we can actually do something with and stop being so priit/continuum reliant.
