Hmm, I don't think stats can be used to define a great player. If we did the steroids infected users would rank highest, followed by the hyper-type over anxiety driven vet (erm no names please) .... at the bottom of the list would be the people smokin dope and drinking.

But we know that a great player = skill + coolness factor + connections + fame. If you rack all these factors up, the best player is probably....Priitk. He has so much skill he actually created the need for it, he's known by all, he made lots of cool programs like Kazaa and Skype, and just his mere elusiveness from the common player puts him at the height of coolness.

Ofcourse you won't be able to cross compare exact statistics from every zone but if you theoretically calculate a number which gives your "value" in the zone. As long as you know the range of this number of each zone, you can compare it to other zones.

Maverick and Smog understood me well blum.gif

I was talking about league-results because some of them are well archived(twl, league.nu, premier, wz and so on).

Of course, some activity (in leagues) would be necessary. But that's pretty much the same in Chess. In chess also only the league-results count. So that would be quite similar.

Finding a mathematical comparison of the skill-value of a player is probably very difficult since after each change of the setting, the formula has to change, and every zone needs different formulas. But I still think that a great mathematician could, if he tried, find a way to do it.

league results could work nicely, you could have a forumula that give a score for your position which will always be comparable.

If this was to be done as long as its a ranking system based on cecent activity rather then all time it would allow people to climb the rankings and fall easily.

Then you would get the question, "Which zones would classify as an included zone in the formula?"

Or, "Wouldn't the newbie who plays all day and night get the highest rankings?"

etc.
