OrangeeoZ Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 My BEST IDEA is to allow SWEARING in HYPERSPACE PUBLIC CHATS! I don't know why ... but for some reason ... I get so angry in HyperSpace. Something in that zone *cough* *cough* players *cough* *cough* makes me tick off. But instead of players swearing and showing their emotions in PUBLIC CHAT, they do it through PRIVATE MESSAGES. Wow ... sad ... So anyways, I think allowing swearing in PUBLIC CHAT would be beneficial to both players and staff. For players: You can show you emotions to the public and instead of punching your pillow to release your anger, you can take it out on the noobs, staff, squad members, and your best friend. d1 even mentioned that (not exact words): I love to see 2 newbs fight ... something like that Staff: Players being a noob but you can't swear? But now, you can! ********* ******** lil !@#$%^&*!YES SAY IT WITH ME! noobs: The pros are spawning you all the time and you just want to say that 2 word? Well... now you can! **** ***!!!! squad member: disagreement, made the wrong move?, didn't attach when I call? Why whine in those private (red) chats when you can swear @ them in public! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyways, I think by allowing swearing in HyperSpace. It would make it a friendlier and respected community! It'll EVEN attract many people because it'll be the 1st zone to allow swearing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote

Dav Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I absoulutly f****** agrree with this s*** afterall i have no f****** words to replace f*** s*** t*** b****** c*** and w***** so i cant f****** chat at f****** all! OK SERIOUSLY Whilst i dont agree with the rule i can see why its there, kids do play this game. Just find some other words to use and you will be fine. Quote
Synook Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Yes I agree with Davs opinion (his serious one). While, true, HS players can sometimes get heated and excited, there are many other ways to express their passion without the need for swearwords. Quote
Sass Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Of all the ideas on this forum, this takes the cake for being the bottom of the barrel worst ever. Quote
EdTheInvincible Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Whilst i dont agree with the rule i can see why its there, kids do play this game. The rule is in place so the public chat doesn't degrade into an endless river of immature and mindless insults.. There are some people who actually use the chat for its intended purpose. Also, while kids do play the game, they aren't the only ones that tend to cuss and swear.. Quote
Sharpflame Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I think Dr Brain likes to keep the zone G Rated at all times. Also I think there was a topic before this one about the same thing a few pages back. Quote
Sass Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I like brainchild's rule - it keeps the zone away (somewhat) from the large amount of hostility you see in other zones. Quote
Deathmonger Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Minimally there ought to be swearing and non-swearing arenas. Just like smoking and non-smoking. Quote
Dr Brain Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 In my opinion, it has had a positive effect on the zone population. The morons who can't control themselves get banned quickly, leaving only the (slightly) more mature players. Quote
Kilo Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Unfortunately, swearing is the least of the problems of your potential population, and you're certainly not regulating the others even remotely as close (see: cheaters, loel.) It's enforced in a way that leaves mods' most common function to warn/fine for it, instead of something a bit less tedious. Quote
Sass Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Is it really a matter of trying to control population? I think it's more about setting the spirit of the zone so people don't feel so hostile. Hopefully folks who have problems controlling their temper can bite their proverbial tongue and keep it cool in Hyperspace. Quote

I don't believe we've met... lol anyway, is ther a way to make the profanity filter work only on my computer? do i need to put a txt doc in the hs folder in continuum? Quote
»Ceiu Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 - Create a text file named "obscene.txt" and put it in your continuum folder (with the continuum.exe, NOT a subfolder).- Add words to the text file that you want filtered. Any message containing these words will be completely filtered -- not just the word. Ex:!@#$%^&*o world An obscene.txt with the contents in the code block will filter out any messages containing the words "!@#$%^&*o" and/or "world". Quote
Sass Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 !@#$%^&*o, S!@#$%^&*. I don't believe we've met... !@#$%^&*o, welcome to HyperSpace. Would you like a mimosa? Quote
