»Ceiu Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 After witnessing the 9v2v1v1 game that just ended, it's become abundantly clear that randomization of the destinations for ID and the gates is necessary. You'd think that the team of 9 would simply wait out a relatively fair fight considering they grossly outnumber the other teams -- !@#$%^&*, even combined they still had them outnumbered by more than 2:1. However, the ONLY strategy they employed was to have Zephoid B dump a bunch of antimatter mines on the ID destination, while another jack!@#$%^&* mined the !@#$%^&* out of the gate. Since TW is out of commission, this left virtually no way into the base. Even in the unlikely event that you managed to follow another player through ID and time it so that they detonated the mines so you could get in safely (or had AD to get around it), you then had to deal with 4-9 players waiting to gun you down. Terrific. I'm not entirely sure how the teams got so uneven, but it's hardly the focus of this discussion. I will admit, however, that if the teams were even (say 9v9 or such) that the mines would not likely hold an entire team back, but would be a significant annoyance instead. In any event, it's clear that something needs to be done about it. Randomizing the point where ID points you would be a good solution. At the very least, it would allow people to byp!@#$%^&* the mined gate enough to "secure" it for an incoming teammate. I'm sure there are other solutions as well, but anything which allows a single player to essentially control entry to an entire base is asinine. Quote
James1293 Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Because i use this tactic a lot, i hate to say (but agree) that id should be randomized because if ppl pay 150k for something they shouldnt be stopped so easily by someone that payed about 2k for falcon missile (to mine the exit). but that still doesnt mean you should immediatly hate the person that is doing it, Cer. >_< as for gate mining, i thought dr made it that way on purpose. »Ceiu Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 Mining HT gates, while annoying, isn't a severe problem in itself. The problem here is like you said: someone can counter the counter without nearly as much cost or effort as the original counter itself and with TW down, there is no other alternative (and !@#$%^&*, even WITH TW active, it's not much effort for someone with Antimatter or Space mines to cover 2 of the 3). Also, James:I hate you because you've been caught cheating, admit to thinking cheating is fun and even go as far as glorifying it. I don't "hate" zephoid or any of the other afore mentioned pussies who employ the most skill-less tactics possible, but I do find them to be very lazy and/or insecure players. Quote
Deathmonger Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 (edited) HT gatemining is too effective now because you get warped into the center every time, instead of being able to control where you land in the gate as it was before. Too many reASSS are sitting around mining HT gates now. I don't mind the tactic, I just thought it was balanced before and now it's not. Agree on the ID problem too. Also, the James hatred issue. James1293 Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Also, James:I hate you because you've been caught cheating, admit to thinking cheating is fun and even go as far as glorifying it.fun, yes, in certain situations. not to be abused and used to get an advantage over others in public arenas. i just think its fun to do in your own zone (or someone else's that lets you cheat... like blue monday) where u get friends to come and u own their faces and everyone is like ROFL. thats what i mean by "fun." NOT in public arenas like those annoying ....annoying ppl from when hs wasnt ssc and they spammed thors in pub. no, i dont mean to glorify it. if you think i was glorifying it, either1)that was back when i was being stupid (2months ago...approx)2)u misunderstood a comment that actually implied enjoyment of the above mentioned use. Oh and on the topic... ya brain plz fix the id thing. what if id was like jump drives? it opened a portal and u fly into it and appear where you want on the end just like ht gate used to be (jump drives are still like this.) on a slightly different topic, maybe you could make a more expensive form of id that let others enter the id warp tunnel. Dr Brain Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Fixing ID to randomly warp you out has always been something I wanted to do. It's not, however, simple. That's why it hasn't been done. Quote
»Ceiu Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 I know that -- !@#$%^&*, I believe we've even discussed it. However, since the change to where HT puts you, it's become more problematic; so much so that I feel that it's now becoming a staple in many team's playbooks. Because of this, I also feel it would be best if this were handled as soon as possible. Quote
»D1st0rt Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 there was a thread on mgb about it where he made distribution pictures with alpha channel pngs Quote
»Ceiu Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 I don't understand. Are you saying that there is an image which controls/seeds the ID destination? Or that someone created an image to show what it is? Quote
