Nightmaree331 Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 I have a comcast cable connection which is run through a router into 3 pc's and an xbox 360, i have connection to them all and everything, its just that when i play a game such as gears of war or final fantasy XI, my connection is good then (idk how to describe it) its like a gap in the connection like this _________ ___________ ______ ____ ________ sometimes those gaps are small and unnoticable by myself (other players complain alot) but then theres big ones which either disconnect me from the game or just make me wait a long time. I pretty sure its not the router because i connected straight to the modem with my 360 and still got the spikes, if anyone can help that would be great and thanks in advance.
rootbear75 Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 what type of cable are you using?what category?
Samapico Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Could it be a program using connection periodically? Something like Outlook or ... something else
rootbear75 Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 i think hes talking more about his xbox360 than the computers
Nightmaree331 Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 well final fantasy i play on my PC and it acts up, but my brother who plays the same game on same connection on a laptop a few feet away has no troubles. Im curious if it could be the ethernet cords i have running to my PC and 360? im gonna try to call comcast see if they know anything
rootbear75 Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 cables might be a problem.. like i asked, what category are they?
CRe Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Or, It could be a corrupt download that was done in your computer.
Nightmaree331 Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 sorry about late response been working lol, anyways idk how to tell what kind of cord it is, if u tell me how i can look and get back to you? and i could understand the corrupt download messing up my connection on my PC but idk how it would mess up my 360 connection too
rootbear75 Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 (edited) look on the cable... it should say somewhere Category 5, or Cat 4, etc... Edited August 1, 2007 by rootbear75
Nightmaree331 Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 it says cat3 high performence patch cable
rootbear75 Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 (edited) get a new cable go to radioshack or somewhere else, and purchase a category 5E in w/e length you want cat 5 and 5e are higher speeds and better reliability than cat3 [ PROBLEM SOLVED ] Edited August 1, 2007 by rootbear75
Nightmaree331 Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 the cord that ran to my 360 was a cat6-50 or so it says i switched them gonna see if it makes a difference but the cat 6 was messing up on my 360 so who knows but ill post again once i see if the lag has stopped after the switch
Nightmaree331 Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 was playing guild wars all night with the cat6 cord thing and i was still get hit with lag spikes sometimes huge ones, any other suggestions or should i just try to replace my modem?
Shock Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 It could be a cable problem within your house. Have you tried replacing the cable running from your splitter to your modem?
Samapico Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Is the cable long? Does it p!@#$%^&* near stuff that could put some noise on the signal? (Electric outlets... tv...)A friend of mine had problems with his internet... When they moved, they attached the cable to a wall with a pin somewhere, but the pin was right in the cable... causing all sorts of interference :SAnyways... might want to take a look at your installation
