Dav Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 we got one, his topics were invisible and are now in the trash can. He had 4 attempts, perhaps up the limit to 10 incase they get over the thresh hold next time?
rootbear75 Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Ok, I changed some things around, and now newly registered people are put into Trial Members. All posts made by trial members are made invisible and subject to review, as well as a 60 second flood moderation. Once that user has made 5 posts, they are promoted to the Members group and able to post freely. I'm pretty sure we should be able to catch any spam within 5 posts. Hopefully this takes care of the problem, because the next step is to start banning all Asia Pacific IP's, which I really don't want to do. what about people who post in the technical support forum?
rootbear75 Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Well with the new spam measurements in place, you can go ahead and ban this guy: www215 see gamers loungeand delete the 4 threads it made
»1587200 Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 About those who may need tech support, the supermods and admins are on the constant look out for invisable posts, and will approve any vaild post as soon as they can. www215 has been taken care ofLimit upped to 10.
PoLiX Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 As long as it doesn't apply to guests, tech support will be fine. The captcha system has knocked out 99% of spam there, proving the previous spam was nothing more than bots.
»1587200 Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Yeah, it's setup to only watch Trial Members and ignore everyone else, so the guests should be alright. What I can also do with this mod, is setup a group of annoying people for people like Tizzy, Grav, etc and have all their posts set to invisible right away, which might come in handy at some point down the road. As it stands, we don't have too many annoyances.
rootbear75 Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 well i know guests, but if a member registers then posts in Tech Support, it shouldnt be set invisible
»1587200 Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Well it will, because there's no way to distinguish weather or not the person is here for valid reasons or not when they register, which is why the staff is on alert to new members and their invisible posts.
rootbear75 Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 im just saying can you make an exception to not set it invisible if its in the tech support forum?
»1587200 Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 No, there is no option to do that. Don't worry, we'll see the posts and get them approved.
Samapico Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 im just saying can you make an exception to not set it invisible if its in the tech support forum?then the tech support forum will be filled with spam
»Maverick Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 heh I guess there is still a loophole for spammers to post as guests in Tech Support
Dav Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 If this was going to be an issue we would have seen it already i think. If it does start happening then we will deal with it as neccacary. The spam issue on the web is really starting to bug me. My university e-mail filters have been breached over the past couple of days so now i get 5 e-mails a day trying to sell me pills and various other crap. When these people will stop at nothing to spam you extreeme measures are needed.
