Lisa Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 (edited) The long story made a little shorter. So yeah. I'm in pain.. Why you might ask??? I went to check my mums mail, as I do everyday (coz my mums new neighbours keep stealing her !@#$%^&*) and got chased and stung by wasps, nesting by her neighbours. There must have been 20-30 Just nesting under a log, which had a pair of jogging trousers dumped next to it, all flying out of this !@#$%^&* hole from underneath the log. I dropped everything I was carrying and ran with my daughter, trying to get away from the !@#$%^&* things. Luckily, my daughter wasn't stung once , but I got stung a good few times. Arms, neck, shoulder. Yeah, it hurts like !@#$%^&*. :'( Then I had the task of having to try and go back for my stuff without getting stung some more, so I ended up waking my mums partner who works nights, so he could watch my daughter, while I got our !@#$%^&* stuff back... So there was me shaking like a leaf, going up to the council to report the situation, who then got onto enviromental health, who said... we can't deal with it, as we only deal with mice and rats.. *sigh* So they tried someone else, who said they would come take a look at the area, but they would have to get in contact with my mums neighbour to get them to call someone out, to get rid of them. ................................................. The question..... Anyone know any good ways of killing off this nest, without calling someone out and being charged bundles, or without being stung left right and center, like I did earlier? Samapico Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 kick their nest, and pray but seriously, if you don't run like crazy, they probably won't sting you Quote
Russky Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 I've had that in camp, there was a bee nest and me and my friend through a stick at it and he got stung, but I didn't. Try putting water on the nest, that's how my mom killed it in camp... Quote
Incomplete Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 You're suppose to run away with wasps and walk away with bees. Most common way is to set fire to the nest while wearing some protective gear. If you dont have any protective gear then get the al qaeda to bomb it. Quote
Lisa Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 lol I was reading some youtube comments to see what others thought. One person said WD-40 kills them instantly... Quote

NBVegita Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 WD-40, bleach, high power bug spray all do the trick. They even have long range wasp spray you can use. Quote
Lisa Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 cheers So flipping annoying though. This happened at about 1:30 - 2:00 pm I think? Roughly 4 hours on and it still hurts on my arm. Stinging a little still on my neck too, but my arm just flipping kills Quote
Greased_Lightning Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Go to a hardware store or something, get an insecticide mix and a 2 gallon pump sprayer and take care of it. Next, find the jogger's remains and inform his/her family. Quote

SeVeR Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 When i was in Tennessee i had some hornets make a nest right outside my front door. I had to leave through the back door for a few days to get to work. I called up the land-lords and they sent someone out. All the pest-control guy did was whack it with a stick and leave. I got back from work to find half the nest on the grass the other half still attached to the porch light, and a few hornets in the process of rebuilding. Over the next couple of days they were back to full strength. So i did the only thing i could do, i went to Walmart, picked up the most expensive wasp/hornet killer spray i could find (was still only 5 bucks) and underwent a dangerous mission. With the bug-spray in my hand i opened the door a crack so see the nest was about 4 feet away, i aimed and fired: the hornets died so fast i almost laughed, they all dropped off the nest instantly. I sprayed each hornet again to be sure, and double sprayed the nest. I then used a stick to destroy as much of the nest as possible. After that i had no more problems. I think its better to buy bug-spray than to rely on pest-control, since pest-control want to be called out again to get more money. Quote

I was going to go there again today to check the mail again, and have a try then. But I just woke up to find it pissing down with rain. Gotta love british summers Quote
SeVeR Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Bear in mind this was only about 10 hornets, they didn't seem partcularly aggressive, and i had a door to hide behind. Your wasps sound aggressive, in greater number and you don't have much cover around a mail box. However some of these sprays can be fired from 20 metres away, so you don't have much to worry about. This has to be the wettest July on record, i got drenched on the way back from the gym this morning. Quote
Incomplete Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Have you ever been stung by a hornet? Hornets are slayers themselves, they go into the nests of bees / wasps and eliminate them very quickly. Quote

X`terrania Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 When I was younger I cut off a nest from a tree, put it inside of a bag and then stuck it inside our freezer, that immediately killed all of the wasps inside off. You could burn them too.. can of hairspray or something like axe, and then light a match and wallaUH LOLOLOLOL YA CUZ DEM WASPS DIE INSTANT IF UR FLAEMZ EVEN TUCH DEM. Quote

SeVeR Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 (edited) I can't actually see the nest. All i can see is wasps flying in and out of the guttering at a rate that is inconsistent with anything other than a nest. So they probably have something inside or attached to the underside of the roof. I live on a uni campus though, so i went to court reception and asked them to destroy it. Unfortunately that was on a Friday evening, so they can't send someone out until Monday. I've been really unlucky with wasps; especially considering that i have a mortal fear of the buggers ever since i got stung at the age of 4 y/o behind the ear and went into shock. The !@#$%^&*ers just don't leave me alone. Xterr was the sort of kid who raped the other kids at school and didn't realise what he was doing until he reached puberty. Born bad! Incomplete Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 Alot of wasps live in peoples lofts / attics. Alot of people don't even know theyre there Quote
Tiq Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 (edited) Shoot at the nest with a rocket propelled grenade, and worry not about whatever collateral damage there is. Just make sure there aren't people around. The results should be satisfactory to pleasing. You're welcome. Edited July 25, 2007 by Tiq Quote
