Special area's/Secret Areas- it only works in mario because it's a 1 player game. if we had it in ss, one person would find it, then he would tell someone and after about 1 day, the secreat area is all over the grape vine.

Alright, enough about the secret area already! haha - I hope brain programs a secret region that if you go there, it kicks you off the game, takes all your money and xp, bans you for 365 days, and calls your momma and shows her the log of the things you say online! muahaha!!! secret.gif

Where are the HT gates to and from the center going to end up? And what is that thing sitting on top of the center safe?

And a personal note, does the center safe have to be that... large? To me about the size we have now is good, but maybe a bit easier to get in and out of.

Good point. I created this layout using mspaint then converted it to a lvl file using facts. Having said that, I didn't take a lot of time on the details like obstacles in the center or a well defined center safety. Aquarius is willing to donate his time to produce a very nice tileset for us and when that comes along we'll add more definitive touches to the map.

I was thinking, i could take out the red lights in this set (since blue is more of an HS color) and that would give me room to put in those white/gray intertwining walls from the above set. What do you guys think? Gimme some feedback

Keep the ice tiles from the updated version, and possibly the red tiles, "stone" tiles and door tiles simply for the sake of tradition. Everything else, toss.

 

The "caution" tiles don't look good in that arrangement. If you're going to include them, you only need two tiles: vertical and horizontal. Ideally, these would be used with other structuring tiles (preferably another set of gray tiles).

One of my older tilesets. I never got around to completing it, but the gray tiles on the left have always been a staple of mine -- so naturally I'm a tad partial to them.

 

 

I'd like to see some of these tiles get used in place of the more boring and/or ugly tiles on the current tilesets. If anyone decides to make use of Arctos' work, send him a message in-game to get his permission. I'm sure he won't mind, but still. In the unlikely event he says "no", I'll talk to him and see if I can convince him otherwise.

Update:

Now that I think about it, I'm not entirely sure if the first tileset (arctos2) was actually made by him or simply used in the map he made. If he didn't make it, feel free to correct me on that one.

I like the last one which is unfinished but the tiles look common. I'm trying to steer us away from building a map which looks like it belongs in TW (e.g. tiles without meaning and just switching colors). Generally we need tiles that fit a 2-tile+ wall pattern which is why the stone tiles work well (but need to go).

Updates (and task list coming soon...)

 

1. I've received bases from several players - thanks! Each of them will be considered but will most likely require some chnages to adapt to the new map design.

 

2. Waiting for a new tileset. I've sent emails to Aquarius and Thunderjam as well as creating my own. After Aquarius sends us his I will post it for vote/opinions.

 

Everything players comment on in this thread is worthy and will be considered (but that doesn't mean we will DO them all - it means we'll think about them). Keep making more suggestions as you notice bugs or have ideas to share.

I like the walltiles you have there, especially the one that looks like a fence. The icy ones will go great with any ice bases. But the big light things, throw those away and put in more walltiles. I think that HS does great with a lot of different themed bases.

 

EDIT:I like the fireball thing, that will be nice with any fire bases. Try to make a second one a little like how there is two ice balls.

Right now while I have time I am posting up the new map in #s!@#$%^&*. Yes we are still waiting on the tileset so in the mean time I will review bases in order to have some of them before we even start on the finalized version of the bases.

Each base will be tucked into a sector. My idea is to have them conform closely to the edges but still unattached from edges so that ships can cir!@#$%^&*navigate the base to search for nme.

My time allotment to do map work has just reduced because I have picked up some work on nights and weekends in addition to my regular job - therefore you will have to go through Quig for bases, tileset, and other map work until I am not on such a busy schedule.

Suggestions:

-1 center that would be kinda like a marketplace (all safe, all stores nearby)

-1+ other "centers" that would be good for general fighting (like the current center)

-as many bases as possible

-once the map is made, adapt to suggestions about bases never used (like current base 7 because of the shortcut which has been complained about.... for a long time)

 

I don't like the idea of that because then it would be hard to find anybody. I sometimes have a hard time finding people right now and theres only 1 center. It should stay that way. I also see a problem with there being more than 2 centers, as I said earlier. I put the plural part of centerS because then there would be atleast 3 centers. Finding people would be one of many problems. Say you want to go to store in a very slow leviathan. That would be challenging with tons of Warbirds and Javelins around.

Right now I have today off and tommorow so I will be doing map work. I need everyone who has made a base or is making a base to send it to quigybobo@gmail.com and make sure the subject line is like hyperspace or something like that. Right now I'm trying to discourage players from making maze like bases. Use the style of basing on the map to create your base but not copy them. I will consider every base given to me but I can't use them all. I don't want to hurt anyones feelings so if I don't use your base I'm sorry.

 

Good luck on your bases guys and please take your time. No hurry on this smile.gif. My time line for geting the map done is about a month or so. I've put this off to long because of work so I'm going to try to get it done asap. But no hurry :D.
