I can see where a little variety would be better than having just one unified look - that's something that is different about HS vs other flagging zones. For things that are missing, please make suggestions for their locations and/or design changes that might work well. Here are some of the tilesets. if you like to make tilesets, feel free to pull together a few of these and build the ultimate 'hybrid" tileset for HS. Once you have that defined, you can swap out the tiles any time you want without having to retile entire maps. If those involved with the map agree with this and are willing to wait, I can throw together something tomorrow after class. Quote
smarch0 Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 (edited) I was thinking and had an idea for the new map, it may be way off base but I might as well suggest it. how about having 1 of the bases devoted to "turf" style flagging. Now at first this might seem to pose a problem of people using that base for the regular flag game + turf game but if you make it a "no flag zone" for regular flags this might solve it. just label the port in as "no flags past this point" and if they jump with flags they get engine failure so flags simply respawn at center. How the turf game could work is make a base with say, 20 permanently fixed flags, for every 5 minutes you hold a flag you get $10 to every one on your team.....so if you hold all 20, you make $200 every 5 minutes for every member of your team. of course these are just some arbitrary numbers I came up with and might not balance but you get the idea. I think this would help with always having the "rich" players getting richer from always winning the standard flagging game and the new player starting out simply being frustrated @ not being able to make any money. my $0.02,Eye Edited July 19, 2007 by Eye of the Tiger Quote

Sass Posted July 20, 2007 Author Report Posted July 20, 2007 tiger - that's a pretty cool idea and we 'could' change the map slightly to accomodate it, but i think most of the implementation of that idea would need to come from new programming on brain's side. check with him - maybe he hasn't read your idea and you could talk it out. neb - neat idea - with lvz, we can produce any type of animation and affix it to the map. (trying to enter with flags makes you blow up) or possibly you have to fly over certain spots in the correct order and it will warp you. the secret area will be hidden between bases, and will be filled with weird stuff like wormholes and mismatched tiles. if this is possible id really like to tile it. I think it would lose it's charm if you knew it was by design (and could see it by sitting in spec and zooming around). Quote

In regards to metroid, I can't think of a single hidden area that was empty -- there was always a reason to go there. With HS, the extra space is not only boring, but there would be nothing to gain by going out there (short of a cash or item prize). Quote

Sass Posted July 23, 2007 Author Report Posted July 23, 2007 chop - every time a new map comes out there are going to be people who like it and people who dont like it. i made this map thread primarily so that the people who dont like what is being proposed can suggest changes before we finalize it. if you can be more specific about what you dont like about the new map layout or maybe what you like about the old map we can try to make changes that might make you a little happier before the map is done. secret portals people - what you guys are talking about is something that has more to do with brain coding it rather than the map design. perhaps a seperate thread about that idea would be worthwhile. I'm going to post an update to the new map layout soon. major changes include the addition of the ID tunnel, smaller center area and change to the soccer tunnel idea. Quote
