nebulou Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 i just got this idea for a one-time use item Time Stopper - Freezes ships, bullets and bombs in time when the item is activated arena settings are changed so that repelspeed is 0repeldistance is largerrepeltime is longer (maybe 1 second) then a repel is generated from the ship that activated the item, and arena settings are changed back to normal. this will freeze anyone and anything not on the players team (they can still turn, shoot and use items though) Quote
Muskrat Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Interesting... it'd have to be a brick-like expense, as a lot of those would destroy a defensive team. And frustrate battles. Quote
Bomook Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 An interesting idea, but I think the cost would have to be a lot more than normal bricks, and/or perhaps some other factors, as it would be easily abusable (as if normal repels aren't technically already). Seeing it limited to some ships would also help diversify niches. Quote
Dr Brain Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 It's really not that practical to send two settings packets like that. Quote
DaRuler Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 what about a time stopper that stops the flag time for 20 seconds or adds 20 seconds to the timer =P Quote
tcsoccerman Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 In my zone owning experience, that is impossible to do. but dr. brain is a better coder than me, so maybe. Anyways, when i first saw "time stopper", i thought of something completely different. i thought of stopping the flag time to drop the flags. i'm almost pos!@#$%^&*ive this is possible... Quote
»Ceiu Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 You've got it backwards, TC. It's possible to do the idea where you stop all other ships/weapons/etc. for a bit of time, but as brain said: it would require sending at least two settings packets (1 for everyone to stop, and n for the players who aren't stopped). The flag timer, on the other hand, is handled completely by the client so the server can only reset the timer rather than stopping it or adding to it. Quote
James1293 Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 whatever happened to the "time travel" idea? it would make a ship warp back to its location 10 seconds ago tho this wouldnt be good for much besides laming/runwinning =P Quote
*rc 1223* Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 i think james means billy joe killed by: lol billy joe> ?timetravel -gets warped back to where he was 10 secs ago- lol couldn't think of an ezier way to say it Quote
James1293 Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 ^ except for being killed. it would just warp u to where u were 10 seconds ago, like a portal. but it would recharge over (x) time so that there would actually be an advantage over portals. Quote
Boldot Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 As long as you couldn't do it with flags, I don't see any reason why not. But then why not just have a portal that regenerates? Quote
»Ceiu Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Well, a portal doesn't move, where this constantly updates. As long as both still follow warping rules, a portal is still slightly better as you always know exactly where the destination is. Quote
Suicide_Run Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 The thing I see with the "time travel" idea is that, that is just like AD since your just gonna be spawned at around where you died with all items. Except you need to manually do a command instead of being it instant like AD and you can wait few seconds before you warp back. Quote
»Ceiu Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Perhaps this item is the balance on AD that we've been looking for? Quote
James1293 Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 The thing I see with the "time travel" idea is that, that is just like AD since your just gonna be spawned at around where you died with all items. Except you need to manually do a command instead of being it instant like AD and you can wait few seconds before you warp back. i didnt mean for it to be like ad, i meant for it to be like unlim portals. maybe a portal that keeps coming back would be better, but that would have bty problems =( Quote
»Ceiu Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 Actually, it seems like it would be a better fit as a replacement for AD, as this would allow AD to be justified in giving back items. Quote
cdrom Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 if this replaces ad will there be no more still invisible people shooting before they respawn? Quote
»Ceiu Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 There are hacks which, in theory, could be used to eliminate this behavior. At the moment, however, they are either untested or have been found to be non-functional by sources I don't personally find to be reliable. The problem with this feature is two fold: Not only is there a strong possibility that the method I've suggested won't work, but there's an even stronger possibility that this feature won't be replacing AD even if it did work. That's not to say it won't become it's own item, but from what I've gathered in conversation with Doc... AD is relatively safe. Quote
