rootbear75 Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 !@#$%^&*o fom sunny hazy Los Angeles!Today is day 3 of my annual vacation to visit my family in Burbank, Los Angeles, Hollywood and the Valley. First on my trip was the flight from Washington Dulles Int'l Airport (IAD) to Los Angeles Int'l Airport (LAX).Flight 205 left at 0941 from gate D2. Takeoff goes smoothly until we feel 3 shudders and the captain comes on:"!@#$%^&*o passengers. Ummm it seems we have a bit of a engine problem. Our number 1 engine is working, but not as well as we want it to, so we are going to be landing back at the airport in another 20 minutes."Apparently, the engine had actually had some flames coming out of it, thankfully it didnt blow. Well we get back to the airport and we get off, and they tell us to wait in the boarding area as they are going to try and get another plane. Well about 30 minutes passes before they finally give us an announcement and tell us to go to another gate. The scheduled leave departure time was 1215 but that was optomistic.Well they fly another plane in and tell everyone its open seating (which some people complained heavily about since they specifically requested certain seats).Well we are about to board when the gate person tells us there's no pilot which has us thinking that our pilots decided to skip off the rest of the day. So then they tell us they have 20 seats available on the planes throughout the day, and they will do our best to help us, which to everyone says besically "We've done all we can, good-bye." So everyone goes down to the Customer Service desk with one agent at servicing 10+ people with about 20 minutes a person. So i decide to use the Easy Check in service desk and call the service agent and get a flight at 2146 later in the evening which would get me into LAX around 2310, which was really inconvenient for everyone in my family to pick me up. So i wait it out and go on standby for the 4 other booked flights leaving the day and i manage to get on the one leaving at 1647. And i end up sitting in the plane for at least an hour before it actually takes off because (GUESS WHAT!) theres more ENGINE TROUBLE! apparently they had to replace a part in the engines so thankfully tyhe rest of the trip went uneventful All i know is if United ASSS up on my way home, I'm never "flying the friendly skies" again!
Hoch Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Minus the engine trouble, I had a similar experience with Deltaback in early 2000. I vowed never to fly them again and I haven't. Mind you, I don't fly too often within the US but when I do it sure the !@#$%^&* isn't with Delta. It's such a shame British Airwaysdoes not offer US domestic flights -Hoch
rootbear75 Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 its not just the engine trouble that pissed me off. its they way they handled the situation.
Hakaku Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 (edited) Well, I've used American Airlines, Air Canada, and Eva Airlines, and none of them have given me problems. Though admitedly Air Canada sucks with service (I forgot why), but Eva Airlines has sexy flight attendants. But that sucks about United :/ Edited June 29, 2007 by Hakaku
Greased_Lightning Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 I had a flight from DC to Chicago 5 years ago where the plane was rolling down the runway on takeoff when all the power went out. They taxied back to the tarmac where we had to sit in the dark plane for two hours while they fixed it. We couldnt get back off cuz it was just 4 months after 9/11. Anyhoo, got to Chicago too late to make my connection home but they put me up in the O'Hare Hilton for the night. Got room service from a hispanic guy that I couldn't understand what he said so he had to write down 'That's $18.00 please'. Then went to pop machine to get a pop that cost $1.75 for a freaking can. Went back the next morning, made my flight, then found out they lost all my luggage which I didn't get back for 2 weeks. What pissed me off the most was that night was the Super Bowl and I missed it all sitting in a dark plane in D.C. United Airlines again. Haven't flown again since.

Telson Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 If your going to fly into LA, i suggest avoiding LAX.. use Ontario's airport dude.
Dav Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 I'm lucky that I've never had any real problems when flying. My worst experience was a plane I was on having to slam the breaks on to abort take off at the last second. Apparently there was another plane landing that had to abort and pull up otherwise we would have taken off into it. Nice one air traffic control...
Greased_Lightning Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 Thunder:Yeah I took out of Dulles to Chicago then home to North Dakota
rootbear75 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Report Posted July 2, 2007 If your going to fly into LA, i suggest avoiding LAX.. use Ontario's airport dude.what? Ontario?i would use Burbank if anythingand the flight from LA wasnt bad at allthank god for economy plus it is worth the extra 50$ trust me... even if you have to sit in the middle seat.of course, it helped that i was already in a middle seat ANYWAYS so i figured, at least i would have the extra legroom
2pac Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 !@#$%^&* i live lik !@#$%^&*ing 5 mins away from IAD lol, anyways take em car rides there fun
Incomplete Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Not had any problems with airports / planes. I've probably just jynxed myself though (with it being Friday 13th too) I go on holiday in under 2 weeks so i'll let you know how it turns out....if i survive
Slipped Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Fly Southwest. It's fairly cheap and it's a good airline. I always fly with Southwest and I haven't had any problems. I fly into Burbank quite often, works great. (I go to Glendale a lot) I don't like LAX, I try to avoid it. I prefer the Burbank airport.
Dav Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 Why did this need to be bumped? Well topic closed due to bump. If you wish to continue this start a new topic.
