MillenniumMan Posted August 4, 2007 Author Report Posted August 4, 2007 (edited) A decent and simple arena (atleast for a demo) should be nice sized space station with tons of room to fight in (basically Death Star Battle, but hardly as complex in the insides) and outside space to fight in. Be sure to add planet Earth somewhere convenient, like you see in the beginning of the Subspace intro. -_- *sigh**downloads Milkshape and registers* EDIT ::Just remember, the widest and tallest that the arena can be is 1400x1400x1400 now (able to squeeze a bit more space out of the arena) or 700x from the center going out at a 360 degree angle. Just use Pi to figure out your dimensions.Just place whatever in empty space in Milkshape, save it as a regular Milkshape file, and send off to you? There already is a model of Earth that is used in the arena Wormhole Xtreme (swings at Martin and breaks his nerdy alien glasses) When working on the TrenchWars arena, I tried to make it as faithful as the original, but realized it was much more difficult to make faithful to the original 2D version. If the TW devs are reading this, I would love to see your ideas on how it should work. Sorry L.C. only so many projects I'm willing to work on at once (or at all) I remember stretching myself too thin once years ago and I hated meeting so many deadlines at the same time. And yes, if you have an idea for an arena, don't hesitate to send it my way for possible inclusion in the release version. Edited August 4, 2007 by MillenniumMan
»jabjabjab Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 lol I'm in the TWDev for 1m and You need to EMail me the new thing for 2.
MillenniumMan Posted August 22, 2007 Author Report Posted August 22, 2007 Here's the status of ThirdSpace 1.02 beta: I sent the models needed for rotations for the front end to Jab, unfortunately he couldn't make heads nor tails of what to do with the files. So I have to do that before the release (VEEEEEEEEEEEERY SOON) because I don't want to use the static pics from the alpha screenshot. Cleaned up quite a bit of crap in the client, but still can't get the weasel to work properly in the game without causing the game to crash it's either in the code or the model itself. Either way the weasel is disabled in favor of the nightwasp. (so we're still down to 8 ships) Still working on a final version of the trenchwars castle, cutting down polys and textures for quicker loading time and to produce less lag. Five music tracks are included in the game so far. Tutorials on how to mod ships and zones are included. Tutorial doc on the functions in the game and the different stuff you'll find there. Banners are now 128x128 pixels in size instead of 16x14. I think I'm forgetting other things, but I can't remember.
L.C. Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Banners are now 128x128 pixels in size instead of 16x14.I think you should keep it proportioned with 16x14 atleast. I think that if you have too many things squared it becomes a wasted space. Screen resolutions aren't square either (1024x768 instead of 1024x1024 or 768x768). You might even want to even consider a 4:3 ratio (8:7 is the traditional ratio). Time saver: 8:7 Traditional16x1432x2848x4264x5680x7096x84112x98128x112 4:3 Native16x1232x2448x3664x4880x6096x72112x84128x96 Probably wouldn't recommend doing a 16:9 or 16:10 ratio. Not sure how I could explain it to you why I say that 128x128 would be worse than 128x112 or 128x96; just an internal feeling -- a kind of knowing that 128^2 just doesn't feel right as a banner for a game like Subspace. Works in social community sites and avatars, but when it comes to signatures (which is kind of what a banner is, although this thought could be debated against avatars) images should be slim vertically and wide. I mean, 128x128 is quite awkward... :S If you still haven't found my perspective here, that's ok.
Hakaku Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 GM uses 64x64 banners, which are placed ontop of your ship's wings. Since ships are variable in size, I assume square is better than having it rectangular, though I don't know how Thirdspace will go about with the banners...
MillenniumMan Posted August 23, 2007 Author Report Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) GM uses 64x64 banners, which are placed ontop of your ship's wings. Since ships are variable in size, I assume square is better than having it rectangular, though I don't know how Thirdspace will go about with the banners... Thank you Hakaku, you noticed. The original logos for the ships "were" the only ones I intended in using on the ships, but that little square on some of the ship models is where the banners go. The 128x128 area is more than enough to represent anything, even a national flag, something triangular or something that looks spraypainted on. These won't be going next to the player names, but on the ships themselves. Don't worry, you'll still get to use the original VIE logos as well. Quick P.S.I couldn't find a logo for the NightWasp. MillenniumMan Posted August 23, 2007 Author Report Posted August 23, 2007 Oh comon MM i tried rly hard on those ships... but i still want to see the beta You got a preview of the beta when you played with those models and made wooshing noises as you dragged them across the screen On a more serious note, just wait until tomorrow morning like everyone else.
Hakaku Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Ya, I suppose if you really wanted rectangular banner, you could just add transparency and make it seem like it is. That is, if the format allows transparency (.gif or .png), or interprets a color as transparent like Continuum does. And I'm sure you could design the nightwasp's logo Just something black and a white wasp, similar to the shark's logo.
L.C. Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 I assume square is better than having it rectangular,Which is why it doesn't go well with any resolution. I've never seen a resolution that was square. I've still yet to see one... O_o These won't be going next to the player names, but on the ships themselves.Oh. Then that's cool. :] Kind of Halo, where you can choose the flag that is embroidered onto the shoulder of the suit/armor. Now support for PNG and BMP would be real nice. You really have to be careful with what formats you choose, like GIF (as it has been known that malware could be injected into images and be executed just by looking at the images). JPG and JPEG might work too. GIF is nice but if it weren't for the past exploits with this format... *fades out*
Hakaku Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 PNG ftw. Seriously, no image should be any other format, unless it's a photo (jpg/jpeg) and ginormous.
MillenniumMan Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 TGA is the only one in the game with alpha and transparencies. Uhhh..... Whut's Halo? On a more serious note, L.C. that hosting offer still good? I can't seem to get this file onto the site (too big)
rootbear75 Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 WHERE IS THE BETA! you promised today!
MillenniumMan Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 WHERE IS THE BETA! you promised today! For some reason I can't get into my FTP to upload it, and since I only have 20mb of attach space here on the board, that won't work either.
MillenniumMan Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 Ok, using a temporary free host to upload to right now.Should be http://millenniumman.bytehost13.com/TSinst.exe
Hakaku Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 I get an HTTP 410 Gone error message (i.e. The webpage no longer exists)You should try http://files-upload.com/ - they allow almost up to 1 GB if you're registered and 300mb if not.
