Hmm.. so when are you going to pm me about the new engine thingy? the new map editor you were talking about? that would be pretty interesting to tinker with... instead of that !@#$%^&*ed collision issue on the old 3rdedit blum.gif

Dude, I already knew it was a movie. I saw it when it came out years ago.

Before the movie, it was a book about video games in our society by Ed Soja in 1996

Before that, it was an idea in quantum physics with its own set of rules involving accelerated time or something...

 

I'm more concerned about the shadow people here on Earth observing us rather than WB whining since Thirdspace isn't atruly trademarkable name. If that were the case, Soja would have a field day in court.

I suppose if TS turns out very much accepted and approved, it could be worthy to take on the name of Subspace2?

If Thirdspace turns out like the Subspace Intro, then I'll be entirely convinced. -_- I've asked a few people around, and they and I would want to play the Subspace intro. ;P JabJabJab, you can't win on this Post-War! blum.gif

Oh by the way, regarding the GUI, is that temporary or do you plan to atleast have a "Classic" skin with the old Subspace/Continuum GUI and graphics? smile.gif

Sorted by "ugliness" of name to the least (or most prettiest): ASSS/!@#$%^&*S, CNL, Continuum (honostly), Thirdspace, Subspace.

Actually I don't know about Continuum and Thirdspace, seem like they tie to me.

I really havent seen the chat box work right.. and how are we going to change ships.. plus you need to make a site router for all zones to go through.. like continuum does so you dont have to put in a I.P. of someone else you have to ask them just to see their zone to get in so yeh. :/

Hmm, what would also be cool (for different "maps" or "arenas") if a mapper could decide whether it be space-based battle or planet-based. Planet based is the same as space based except with gravity, collidable terrain, etc. Maybe a whole planet you can fly around on or something...or mapper-set boundaries. lol.

Also known as a directory server. If MillenniumMan makes a simple and stable Directory Server for Thirdspace, I'm volunteering to host it on a high-end Dedicated Server (see System Specs page at hlrse.net).

 

Partly.. i just want to see a new breed of servers that can read a 3d arena. and use it.

That was outright SPAM. -_- Atleast say something related to the topic.

 

Alpha isn't exactly a good example of Thirdspace. blum.gif Host button doesn't work for me, I got a BSOD on my video card drivers when accidentally alt-tabbing (and no, Continuum was not open), and the sound part of it just doesnt seem to work well. For example, I only hear the music and thrust (note that it's terrible and awful static quality) when I move forward, and sound is very choppy. But of course, alpha is far old news. blum.gif

True.. Make a alt tabbing chat box like continuum does... and make it more stable.. (I.E. I crash too) but atleast i can see what others are saying... blum.gif

The WB in my sig and avatar is a glamor shot, it's like putting a fourty year old woman in a shawl and using petroleum jelly on the lens to make her less wrinkled. When you're moving at 800mph in the void of space with level3 barrels pointed at you, you're given less time to consider these things and you just don't notice unless you get a video screen cap.

 

half the features are messed up on the alpha client, but rest !@#$%^&*ured, they won't be on the next release *looks at the glacier heading down route40* suffice it to say, the old 3dRad engine may not be used much longer as is is too hard to work with at times. People won't have to convert their models into v3d or .x format, just leave them in milkshape3d format as they make them. Albeit I've had trouble with the textures on some of the ships, making them look like a blob of pixels when they're rendered. Learning the new engine was rather easy. and since it uses openGL, rendering seems to be faster than in 3drad.

 

Uh. let's see, what else. names..... Well, we'll see. the name will either stick or change, who knows what the future holds. Noone thought the game subspace would stick around for a whole decade, let alone have such a cult following after VIE canned the game.

 

Ehh... then there's the server side. Client has this ability built in in the 3drad alpha, unfortuneatley it seems to kind have pooped out for everyone else. The frontend will inevtably look like the older SS client, just for the sake of CONTINUity, so the first ones don't feel so left out. With the 3drad engine, the setup of a topdown game was not only simpler to set up, but easier on the rendering engine. With the new engine, 2D might be thrown out altogether.

 

Did I miss anything? I must have, but it's hard to tell with the massive amount of posting.

But I just tried to launch it, and I get an messagebox with "3drad 5.1" as !@#$%^&*le... and it closes... Do I need something else?

Ok LC. I figure most people want that level of customability with TS as the do with SS/Cont. Originaly, the CNL-TS client was going to be keyboard only, then I switched to All Sidewinder for a while with customizable buttons. With the Rad engine, there was room for only one or the other (like in SS) This new one can utilize all three, and I will take your setting reccomendations seriously. But I'm thinking instead of different keys for all those weapons, just one key to scroll through all the different ones in the arsenal like in GTA3/VC/SA

 

Cyph: Eve online? Isn't that a D&D kind of game? I've heared of it but never really seen it in action. I'll look it up after I do a couple of things.

 

Samapico: *pets you* The alpha game was optimized for the nvidia chipset and DirectX 9.c on up. Did you use the configuration panel that comes witht he game? To optimize for other 3D cards and settings? It's possible you might have to set to software rendering as opposed to hardware acceleration. This will also fix the staticy sounding soundtrack *stares back at LC*
