BlueWyvern Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 Please note, the current rules are nonnegotiable. That is to say, any replies to this post that is just a way to attack the rules will be deleted. This topic is an open discussion on what the public thinks should be added, I'm sure some of you have some good ideas that will make people enjoy the zone more. 1. No swearing or racism at any time.2. No spamming.3. No VIE/unauthorized chatnet clients or bots.4. No advertising other zones.5. No intentional team killing.6. No exploiting server lag, server glitches, and/or client glitches.7. No "trade killing" or offering of free kills. Using third party cheat utilities will result in a ban and possibly a net ban.Common sense applies to rules that may not be listed.Punishment varies depending on staff member. Note: I removed run winning because you can't use tw, id or jump to run win. Quote
Dr Brain Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 Lameness (as determined by the mods) is also illegal. That should cover anything not explicitly on this list. Quote

I see players on their own private freqs in bases killing strays, all the time. (like poppel)But all of a sudden when PK does it is illegal? Quote
Cheese Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 arent you the zone mapperare you going to make map rules or something Quote
Corey Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Well, I was just going to copy it from the f1. Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) Not to tell you that your rules are outdated but.. 4. No advertising other zones. Do zones just keep this rule because it's tradition now? Such an old rule, and a worthless one. Times have changed, the game has changed, player base has grown up. Maybe zone owners could grow up too! ? (haha) Okay maybe you are not laughing, but still. Do you really need a rule to keep players in HS? Can't Hyperspaces' good qualities speak for it? HS is a good a zone, with good ideas, and dedicated players, don't you think some respect, and a little bit of freedom is in order? i am not aware of what your opinion is of your zone. But i see many players in HS who play in other zones. (Of course some players play HS only). But the point is people tell each other to come to other zones all the time, if not in public than in private or in squad chat. Those players you have from other zones are a direct result of out of zone advertising. If you allowed people to say come to Trench, maybe they would make friends there, and bring those friends to HS next time. It's give and take, in order to recieve you need to give a little. Haven't you watched miracle on 34rth street where santa tells people to go to other stores, and indirectly that boosts Macey's business big time. Really i understand the whole, please stop spamming or advertising intentionally, but that can fall under the SPAM rule. But if i say randomly in chat that i play another zone, and this event there is cool. It's not going to kill your zone, it might actually ADD to your zone. This rule seems primarily based on fear. (though you can argue most rules are) but in this case there is nothing to be afraid of. Really no one will suddenly not like a zone they always play in, it might even be most players won't touch another zone even if you mention how good it is. Though i think friends should be able to enjoy the game and explore the whole community without feeling like they are breaking rules for doing something they do anyway, which can't be stopped, so zone owners try to pretend it doesn't exist by banning it publicly. This is just my view on this rule, always will be, because it's never helped subspace grow and never been proven to do anything. Edited January 6, 2013 by Lone Outlaw Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 I've never taken the advertising rule to mean that you can't ever talk about another zone. Though I know this is how most of the zones interpret this rule. There is a a type of blatant advertising that isn't technically spamming. It's when some guy comes in, sits in spec, and starts talking about how HS is inferior to X zone and how X zone has all these cool features. Near the end of the guy's spiel he asks "how do I get into a ship" indicating that he's never even played HS before. In my opinion, it's actually more annoying than spamming. That's why this rule is there. This rule doesn't cover (non annoying) honest discussions. Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 Ahh alright i guess it depends on how you guys think about the rule and when it becomes something that needs to be enforced.. sounds much better and fair when you said it that way. Quote
spittnacid Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 I've seen all these rules broken and nothing done about it, especially the first one which only half of the rule I agree with. Obviously no racism, which used to be nonstop late at night. But cussing? Come on are we in church here? And there's a filter anyways. Its funny how you cant say the s word but you can talk about vaginas. What's more offensive? And the glitching, I've seen mods wall hack on the old map, have smalls with turrets... I understand there was a time the code was buggy but ppl were taking advantage of it. Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) The swearing happens accidently most of the time... i always figured most bans were warranted when a person breaks a rule on purpose.. But 99% of the time i forget HS has a no swear rule, and 99% of the time i type a bad word without even thinking i typed a bad word and shouldn't push enter, it's almost subconsiously natural.. not necessarily a habit.. but when it happens it's not like i planned it or was even aware, until after i read what typed. and then think, crap, did it again. =/ Then i am like, sorry, sorry, but there was no mods around to punish me anyway lol Policing myself.. =/ and i agree vaginas are more offensive Edited January 18, 2013 by Lone Outlaw Quote
spittnacid Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Wait racism extends to nationality and there's lots of cuss words that are apart of the British language so me being British, its racist to not allow me to express myself. Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 The word "Racism" is usually used in place of "really bad swearing", rather than its true meaning. Most zones use it this way. I've always interpreted this rule list the same way. No swearing and no really bad swearing. Racism in its true meaning (a specific type of bigotry) is not actually illegal in HS. If you want to have a civilized discussion on why you believe people with one color skin are inherently better than people with another color skin, go for it. Don't expect to make any friends though (and realize that if you so much as say "damn" the mods will more than likely use it as an excuse to ban you forever). Quote
spittnacid Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) Fine I'll just call ppl wankers, tossers, Benders, twats, etc.. but idont honestly think its different than the banned American versions therefore the fword, sword etc should be allowed. You should ban penis and vagina though.. those words sound icky! :-) Edited January 20, 2013 by spittnacid Quote

Mind you coming from someone that stereotypes. But I stereotype based on groups not individuals and always judge someone from experience and fallback on stereotypes if they fit them. There is a huge difference between stereotypes and racism. Racism is saying all people of a race are this way and usually negative. Stereotyping goes beyond race and says this group of ppl are this way and is usually more neutral. Edited January 20, 2013 by spittnacid Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 I didn't say it was civilized. If being uncivilized were made illegal, 95% of the population would be banned. That's just the age group. Anyway, that's not what racism is. Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 As long as i can play with Hitlers Oven nick name, or Jew in my name. Then it's all good. And if i have the freedom to wear swastikas.. etc Quote
spidernl Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 I'm not convinced you'll make very many friends among both staff and regular players doing so, but hey, it's your funeral. Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) i just find it funny that brain used 'damn' as an example of a bad word.. is he from the 20's, or a Jehovas witness? Only religious nuts, extreme conservative types.. oh wait same difference.. Edited January 20, 2013 by Lone Outlaw Quote
