... Loops, leader of the council, was the op you speak of. So nothing says the council is the best place.

Cyberise use to have billing powers to handle names due to running the main website for the game, and I myself had quick connection with him when I had requests, was very nice. But since then, I get requests, issues, and questions all the time, but nowhere to send them due to no connection to any ops anymore. It would be nice if one of them stepped up and worked out of these forums a bit, because I hate sending people to the script, and they come back to me saying they got no help, and I feel like I failed them.

There's only 2 of us doing name/squad requests now (kewl and I) so we're pretty backed up. We do a bunch at a time when we're on, but what we really need is two more billing ops to help out.

don't be afraid to get in touch with me in game. Send me a PM or just ?message me. If you catch me online and message me I'll probably take care of it right there and then.

I must say it's good to know at least some people are still working behind the site. I will p!@#$%^&* this message on and that people can contact you directly in-game.

I work all day so I'm not gonna be on past like 11 PM =p. I've got AIM (should be in my profile), but I'm usually in SS 6-10ish.

Off Topic: Know what I never noticed til this thread... When you quote someone, it enters your time for the quote, and not some sort of dynamic time like the posts. I quoted blue at 9:31, but his says 12:31, and his post to me was 7:22pm, and to him 10:22pm. I never noticed that til now... sorta gay honestly.

BlueGoku, since you are the only Council member posting in this thread, why not put in a request for some new members?

I don't think there will ever be "new" council members unless something drastic happens and someone replaces somebody else.

Just like what happened with SVS. He got fired/quit/whatever and Testtube took his place on the council. Unless something like this happens, I don't see them getting any new members. I mean come on, if they got new blood, something may get done...we can't have that now can we yes.gif

Things get done, they just take time. It took about 6-7 months to get us from the discussion stage to finally implementing the new billing ops a year ago. Same with the banG ops. Whenever someone new joins they're always full of ideas and suggestions and so eager to do their best to help. Unfortunately priitk isn't exactly active, and basically everything requires him to implement. Things do get done though, and the addition of another billing op or two is definitely a priority at this point.

Six months in discussions? Peh. No wonder nothing gets done.

Are you guys sending one word emails or something? This isn't access to a nuclear warhead's control panel, it's a !@#$%^&*in biller for a decade old, player run game. If you're THAT worried that someone is going to come along and !@#$%^&* with the biller, why don't you guys backup the data every week or so? Also, while you're at it, how about updating the biller software itself? Wait... Oh, that's right, somewhere along the line you guys got too apathetic to care that the basis of the community that comprises the population for this game is resting on the shoulders of one man who is about as active as a sloth. Wonderful.

Spend six months discussing that.

Well it didn't take exactly six months. But from the moment it was first

mentioned through to discussions and when it was actually done, that

took a little while :(

But in general, Blue is right. It can take a while for certain changes to

be made. Whilst there is a presumption of honesty, there is a track re-

cord of those on the Council abusing their position and privileges. Better

safe than sorry, but a more proportionate use of caution and action is

in order.

I'm with ya for the most part, bud. While Priit's done SO much for us and still continues to host (and to a degree, manage) SSCU/X for free, he hasn't really had the time for any SS administration. The council has suggested a few times that people like Grel and Ekted should be given access to the code so they can continue the development. It's always been shot down so we've stopped trying at this point. Other issues, such as new billing and banG ops, zones being added to SSC and basically all other things that don't require Cont development do get done after enough discussion/pressure, however.

why does he keep shooting it down? what does he have to gain/lose in keeping it?
The only reason I can think of is that he cares enough to not want the game and source to fall into the wrong hands. However, it also shows he doesn't care enough (or have enough time) to continue development. which is kind of a double negative, but whatever.

I still think you guys should get someone new into the council. Promoting someone who already does nothing to do something more is kinda pointless (ie, Mackieman). Give the responsibilities to someone who actually gives a !@#$%^&* about this game, then something good might happen, not that anyone cares anyway (except the players, who have been crying for as long as I can remember for someone reliable to get in a position to help them). But as it stands now, those with power sit around and wait for someone to come along who's willing to pleasure them oraly, then, MABYE, something gets done, but who wants an !@#$%^&* kisser (SVS) running the show eh? Certainly not I.

whats the worst that could happen?

Someone could get the encryption protocol, start programming cheats, infeltrate the biller, steal passwords, steal names, make themselves a god on the biller, and I'm sure there's more that I'm not thinking of right now.

Hey Blue, I'm having difficulty contacting you and since you've replied here I figured I'd reply here as well. My initial question was about how you guys determine whom is acceptable for joining SS Council. I'm interested in being a billing op and from what I've gathered to even be considered for the position you must first be on the SS Council. I do recall reading a link a few years ago, and correct me if I'm wrong here, that stated in order to join SS Council you either needed to be a sysop of a zone or operate a major subspace news website. Besides meeting the requirement what else is there that can be done? I've already spoken with Pure_Luck about recommending me to the council which he's agreed to do so. Who can I talk to in game or in private about this? I'm not interested in being a hassle to anyone but from what I've gathered in helping any zone it seems you either need to be a programmer or a pain in the !@#$%^&* to let someone know you're interested in helping.

The last time I had a problem with recovering my name, Reaver, it took 3 weeks to be told that they could not in fact give me the password to my name. My IP was only the same for about 8 months since I had moved 8 months prior but my MID was the same for many years. Anyways, I managed to guess my password after quite a bit of trial and error but the point remains that you guys are substantially understaffed and I believe myself qualified and able.

Hi Reaver. What you read was from the sscouncil.com website, "To be considered for the council you need to be a zone owner or the operator of a major community site." Other than that there's not much that can be done. Getting your name known in the subspace community would be a good positive though, so that when you do end up meeting those requirements and your name is brought up for voting, you'll have a better chance at getting recognized and voted in. Council members recognized me from staffing in Pro and Dueling Zone, helping out Powerball by putting them up in HZ while their server was having issues (also did some code swapping with them), sharing our football stuff with Metal Gear CTF, the minegoboom help forums and various other things I had done since I started playing this game.

But ya, my advice is to just help out with the game whenever you can. Get to know the council members (casually, don't go spammin' us whenever we're on =p). It's a pretty lengthy process, however, and no way to speed it up.
