Ugh... I was the main pusher of this so this is rather bothersome to say...

 

 

What were you smoking when you added maxspeed/maxthrust upgrades to items? On reactors I can see it being reasonable, but on the new utilities and on slip/fins -- it's excessive. When achieving 5 speed/thrust was somewhat rare before, you're now considered slow unless you can pull 12/12. I'm usually all for speed, but this isn't a super-zone. With the recent falcon+shrap booster combo, this just makes most center ships designed for boom + zoom tactics and extreme running. Worse yet, even if you can keep up, the insane thrust makes it hard to follow someone long enough to kill them.

 

Basically, I wish for the days before you left, where maxing out speed didn't negate the usefulness of rockets and ht bonuses (but keep the new utilities, just bump them down to +1 speed/thrust/rotation and NO MAX INCREASE).

Remember the large penalty of costing a utility to get extra s/t/r. Maybe we should just make each utility lower the other maneuverablity stats, e.g. extra speed will add +2 speed, -1 rot -1 thrust. Maybe extra rotation should stay the same, since you can't exactly run with it.

Maybe make it so maxspeed/thrust increase is only +1 for all those that changes the speed and thrust. So slip has +3 speed+thrust but only +1 maxspeed+thrust and the extra utility is +2 speed/thrust and +1 maxspeed/thrust.

confused.gif shredder takes 35nrg per shot, phaser takes like 14 or 17 (cant remember)...

shredder does 300 more dmg per second tho. check neb's (partially outdated) gun guide(the dmg done by those 2 guns isnt outdated, though some other info on it is, such as the dmg done by disruptor)

 

actually, disruptor is better than shredder in all ways EXCEPT that it does about 50 less dmg per second. it is MUCH more nrg efficient than the shredder(as is the phaser).

I do think it is quite clever with the maxspeed increases, but it has been getting a bit much. I've never been a fan of trying to chase people down just to fight, or having some speeding shredder vulch my opponent (or me.) I do like sharps idea of each having somewhat of an offest effect...

 

Perhaps a different item set entirely called "balancing weights" or some such which requires a converter from utility, where you can choose an increase in speed (say +3, with +2 to max) at the sacrifice of thrust (-2 and -1 to max) and perhaps rotation(-1/2), and vice versa for thrust? I think this would help prevent overbalancing in either direction, and be much more of a descision to go that path.

 

As for shredders, I don't seem to find any real problem with the way they are now, they are almost completely useless in bases, and simply moving to the side prevents the majority of shredder attacks. Yes it can shoot an !@#$%^&*load of bullets really fast, but that leaves the shooter nearly defenseless, and extremely succeptable to being destroyed by a mine. As they are often rocketing, or going very fast, they have limited dodging capabilities, and have a hard time avoiding mines.

Against high speed terr shredders, you can predict their general paths pretty easily. Start shooting in that general area and the terr ill run face first into it. And wat boldot said, if u move to the side or dont stand still. You wont get shredded that badly.

turret base is the same as nuclear cept it makes u go faster by a tiny bit when u have turrets, my lanc actually have 12 speed and max speed which means i can outrun most wbs,javs,terrs,sharks etc.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. Why does everyone want everything to be equal? Some ships are better for some things and worse for others, just like some sublights, reactors, etc. The max speed and thrust points I agree with, but the shredder nerfed? I mean come on, it's been there for a loooong time and it is fairly easy to defend. And the newer people who buy it just suicide with it until they have no energy left. So dodge and shoot them once or twice and BOOM. I mean come on. You ever see shredders in base? No. It's a center ship which is quite easy to defend. That's all I have to say. You rarely see a shredder terr bountying over 2-300. However, a jav or wb with super speed does.

My Shark uses Shredder in base. It's very efficent at killing back lancs fast (should I ever get to it). In fact, it's fast killing power is the entire purpose I even have that gun. Also, suicide rushers in a base die fast when I manage to get my shredder guns right at them. The shredder kills the fastest, and I feel rushers want to kill fast when they get to the nme's back lines. Makes sense?
