!@#$%^&*o all,

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what sort of computers the users of Forum Central have, and also what time zone you guys live in. So, if you would like to, please fill out the poll above. I'm sure we will see some interesting results smile.gif

GMT + 5

1 GB RAM

AMD

On a side note Vista sucks and I didn't want it.

tell me about it.

I recently built a core2 vista system for someone and the PC is awesome, the OS is !@#$%^&* though, even the 'vista compatible' drivers play up constantly.

this is nothing worse than when XP came out.

Just the same bugs microsoft has with every operating system when it comes out.

Acctually is wasnt as bad as when XP came out because you can use windows 2000 (which is based on nt 4) drivers in XP.

And windows 2000 had been around a couple of years before so they had stable drivers.

The new driver system in vista means drivers that have had 7 years+ years of development to mature and have all bugs ironed out have had to be completely rewritten. Additionally the new driver system is substancially more complex.

This is why there is this significant driver problem with Vista.

Windows Vista = new Windows ME - need i say more

Wait for version after Vista.

1. All the drivers will work by then

2. Microsoft cut all the good/significant changed they were going to make to windows out of vista to rush out an eyecandy release.

Serious question for vista users. Whats acctually new in terms of functionality? Its nearly entirly looks.

XP / Linux (Suse atm)

1152 x 864

GMT - 6

1024 MB

AMD

And there are worse things about Vista than driver problems. Things that aren't bugs.

You are not your !@#$%^&*ing system specs.

We're not posting them to brag though, contrarly to these gamer forums people... It's a purely demographical evaluation of the machine we use to read forums/play subspace

Let me see...as for features Vista has, there is a sidebar that you can put various crap on like a notepad, weather forcast, etc. Problem is that it hogs CPU. Admittingly the notepad would be a pretty good feature if it didn't hog CPU and the stickypad wasn't already invented.

And there was a feature that automatically downloads "files and programs" which automatically transferred files from my old computer to this one. Programs actually didn't go over, so in the end it was a fancy thing that probably saved me 5 minutes of time.

And the start menu is better organized.

Finally, it has all these security things which you have to disable in order to get on to the internet through a LAN or run a simple game. For instance, the phishing filter tagged the network with which I connect to the internet as phishing for personal information...in this case the password I use to log on to said network.

All in all, the new features go into two catagories: crap you don't need and overprotective security.

I'm not going to complain though, because if I complain then some hacking idiot will read said complaint once again decide that Microsoft is evil and waste a bunch of time he could get paid for making a virus which would force Microsoft to add more security crap onto the next update. No Bill Gates is not the anti-christ. Find something better to do with your time.

Actually I liked to brag about my old computer because it was a piece of crap and I could still pwn everyone, and having 1024x768 max resolution is a disadvantage.
