I can get into DSB and a bunch of other zones fine, but 17th parallel (and Mystik Kingdom aswell) comes up red and unplayable. I removed the zone, re-downloaded and added it again, only to get the same problem. When i download the zone lists i can see the zone has people in it, and it appears to be working fine, then when i go back to the main screen it shows up as 0 people for a few seconds before turning red again. I don't know if being on a campus network could be the cause, but that wouldn't explain why i can play dsb and other zones. Any suggestions?

Well, to state the obvious so that subsequent posters do not, this isn't the result of a server going down because 17th Parallel and DSB are both SSCU, and Mystic Kingdom is SSCI.

However, it doesn't seem like it is something that you can fix on your end. Most likely it is a problem with those specific zones which only the staff of those zones can solve.

I would beg to differ, I would assume it is an isp problem, or if he is connecting from a university a firewall issue.

If it were a zone issue it would be more than just Sever not being able to connect.

Its a bad hop. I had one 3 weeks ago every zone was in the red..some came online (looked to have come back on line)

It took someone 3 days to fix what ever was not working right.

It's been like this since i came back to university in january. It would be really strange for a university firewall to discriminate against certain zones and not others on the same server. I'm sure the university has network blocks against internet gaming, like for Counterstrike, but i can play most ss zones... which is why it's strange. Maybe it is a zone problem that has to be fixed at that end. Edited by SeVeR

Why would the university block gaming? Mine doesn't. Students are adults who are paying several thousand dollars to go there. Provided its not illegal and doesn't hog too much resources, my university couldn't care less what we do with the internet. They are professors, not nannies. By college, students are expected to know how to spend their own time effectively.

Thus, I highly doubt there is some sort of game-blocking feature built in to your university network.

Besides, I've noticed the same problem at home once in a while.

universities may block alot of UDP ports (or restrict transfers from them) to avoid students taking alot of bandwidth by downloading stuff (torrents, p2p...)

yea they've definately blocked p2p downloading. I think gaming is restricted to within the university network in most cases, but ss/ctm seems to be an exception... at least with most zones.

Hmm, i'm not sure so i'll just suggest a few things that you have probably already tried. What directory are you using when downloading the zones?

Have you checked for any sort of spyware?

Is there a firewall which could be causing a problem? (wouldnt explain why the other zones work I dont think)

Got any geeky IT buddies in uni that could help? blum.gif

Ask in chat=techhelp. Someone there might know, i'm pretty much a computer idiot so im not sure if what I suggested would help or not.

Have you checked what ports they've blocked?

I've tried reinstalling continuum.

I've tried removing my firewall.

I can check for blocked ports, but i don't know their relevence if they are blocked.

Nothing seems to work.
