Well as im sure everyone who has entered the zone has noticed by now, several things were changed. Most notably ship sizes.

 

Terrier + Weasal = Smaller

Spider + Levi = Larger

 

Personally i think the size changes were overall good. While the weasal size is a mixed reaction for me, i do like terrier as a smaller ship. As it is now slightly harder to hit with a more controled fire, this makes a good step to balancing the terrier out. I believe really all it needs is a slight increase and thrust to make terrier an all around good ship. I also like the new spider size. A larger ship size makes the spider take more damage when attached to a lanc, thus decreasing TURRET strenghts (which im sure most center players will enjoy). On the other hand the larger gun spray somewhat evens out the negative effects of a larger ship, which is plenty ok with me. I do not own and I dislike levi's, so personally i cant comment on how i feel about the size changes. As for weasal, i did like the large ship size, but reduced works just as well overall.

 

Gun prices has most noticably been raised. I like this idea but i know many players do not. I already see a rant thread about it up on the same page as this topic, so i will not even go further talking about prices. I do think that the kill formula should be slightly increased to compensate for higher prices.

 

What guns can be used on certain ships has also been modified. I do not know every gun slot change for each ship off the top of my head, but most recognizable is that Disruptor can only be used on SPIDERS, and SHARKS can now use shredder. I think this will definately helps the popularity of shark use in center.

 

BOMBS on SHARKS! DOUBLE BARREL on SHARKS!

 

MOAB and TACNUKE can only be used on LEVI

 

Also, mezon capacitor is now 50k, but for a good reason. It now gives no energy change when you buy it. It used to have a -1 energy property, but now is 0. It still has 5 recharge, the best their is. This makes mezon worth the price tag IMO, and i am currently using it on my spider.

 

The only real change i DISLIKE is the fact that QUANTUM REACTOR cannot be used on warbird's or jav's anymore. This is highly disturbing :(

EDIT: As a sidenote, changes are NOT finished. Brain is apparently still working around with things, so all of this may not be permanent. So dont freak out too much smile.gif

 

ALSO: I have added my ideas and opinions of changes made later in the day since the original post. enjoy.

 

Here is all of my idea/suggestions towards the new changes:

 

Ships:

Warbird: apparently energy has been tweaked, possibly along with bulletspeed and bulletdelay (not sure on this one), but i believe its a decent change. Warbird actually has to be used in more of a dog fighting role, as it probaly should be.

 

Jav: I like all the changes towards jav, nothing major has been tweaked, but it seems much more playable to me now. And it feels more like the super-bird of old HS days.

 

Spider:lots of changes on this beast. Ship size is a good thing. Larger fire radius makes up for it being easier to hit. Disruptor on spider seems pretty over powered, perhaps an increase in bullet delay? Larger ship size will allow it to take more damage while turreting, most likely this will reduce the amount of turrets in play.

 

Levi: My levi is a poor mans levi so i do not have much on it, so im not aware of its current usability. Large max energy increase makes this thing a tank though. Ive seen several people relying on it as a rushing/burst/die/attach/rushing ship while flagging, and it isnt too bad at it either. Havent really seen someone bombing with it in center since changes yet, but im sure it does decently. Also MOAB and tacnuke can only be used on this ship, which definately !@#$%^&*igns it the role of heavy bomber.

 

Terr: My favorite ship all around. Decreased size makes ship much more playable. It (as some players have mentioned) resembles a slow, high energy warbird. Terrier has become more playable in center besides for rocket shredding, which is definately a plus. Overall this is my favorite ship update. I believe a slight increase in thrust would help make this ship what its meant to be, a "jack of all trades."

 

Weasal: Mixed reaction to this ships changes. I like the decrease in size, although i didnt mind its previous larger size. I believe bulletspeed has been decreased, which i greatly dislike. Stingray torpedo and EMP shockwave can still only be used on this ship, still giving weasal its own niche of some sort.

 

Lanc: Stated in a previous post that i do not like the reduction in speed, but i do believe it was an appropriate reduction. On the other hand i really think that additional speed reduction for attachers should be eliminated or at least reduced to even out the already decreased base speed.

 

Shark: holy changes. Double barrel guns and the use of bombs makes this ship much more playable. It seems almost all players like the changes made to this ship. At a price of 7500, you definately get the bang for your buck. I dont think salvo or string of pearls should be available on this ship though. With the additional uses of this ship i think settings and available items should definately continue to be played around with.

 

Prices:

Prices for alot of items have been changed, overall there seems to be more raises of prices than lowering going on, which is what should have been done. I do not want to dive much into this subject because im sure prices will continue to be tweaked, as ive noticed they already have been.

 

Overall:

The recent changes will definately raise some issues with the population, while eliminating others. Overall i believe the changes were good and needed, but i think they still need to be messed around with in order to achieve some sort of balance. Further testing and player feedback will help determine what needs to be changed.

No more quantum on warbird? Jesus, why nerf a ship which is essentially cannon fodder?

 

The one change I would love to see implemented instead of ship-specific limitations is equipment weight and ship affinity. That is, allow every ship to use any piece of equipment, but the ships themselves have weight limits and certain equipment functions better (or worse) on certain ships (IE: Bombs would be slightly more efficient on a levi and/or a warbird could carry a tacnuke, but would probably not have any extra weight for guns or reactors). But, that's a pretty drastic change to the zone, so whatever...

 

 

Edit:

Some things I've noticed since posting:

 

- Warbird and Jav energy was reduced.

- The disruptor is a tad overpowered. And by overpowered, I mean... wow.

- Retro rockets no longer give booster speed (yay, no more pesky javs keeping up with me).

 

...yikes.

I'm kind of interested to see how this is going to play out, everything will probably be tweaked again once we see how it affects the play.

 

One thing I do like is that ships have become more role oriented than they were before.

disruptor bullet delay needs to be increased

 

And lancs are now horribly slow, i use lanc more than any other ship too. If speed isnt changed.. i dont know if i can keep playing. seriously, try to fly/turret/flag with a lanc now, its ridiculous. I get nerfing it a bit, but wow smile.gif :(

 

i tried to flag with squaddies, i stopped playing after 3 minutes and one attack attempt after trying to use lanc..

 

EDIT: after further review, the decreased lanc speed isnt that bad, it actually is more appropriate for the "role" of lanc. Although with the decreased speed i believe the addition reduction in speed for additional attachers needs to be eliminated.

The descriptions for each item needs to be changed and im guessing brain is doing that sooner or later. Mezon is better than tokamak only for those ships that can buy mezon at that heavy price...

 

Im not even gonna bother to change my ship layout until brain balances everything out or stop changing it for a while. Well, one good thing is that spider wont be that homo w/ the retro....sucks for who brought a spid just cause they wanna retro lame w/ it blum.gif

 

I think the lanc is still turretable and the speed change is a good thing cause the driver will actually need skills instead of just rocketing away, porting and reshipping.

 

Well, hopefully things will work out after we try the new changes for a while.

Its overpriced, impossible to get money, lancs suck, spider sucks, retro rockets suck, shark is somehow 25k sucks, terr is ok but is too slow so it sucks, and everything else that was "new and improved" sucks. please go back, i hate it so much i am prolly going to take an extended vacation, or leave from hs.

let doc finish his tweaking of the settings and see what u think

 

(but atm.. i dont like how lanc is bigger then levi... yet levi has more energy, and how small ships will have a very hard time with levi's)

Wow I think that's a record for how many times suck has been used in a post. Could the rest of the posts in this thread at least include some ideas or suggestions you guys have for Brain instead of just coming here to say "this sux that sux that sux this sux wah wah wah"

yeah really, please offer some feedback on what you think needs to be done. Instead of "omfg change it please," how about "this, this, and that being changed would definately help even things out and make the game more playable."

 

The only way to get what you want out of HS is to help and offer your suggestions.

Is there any reason in particular that the shark got such a massive upgrade? I feel kinda ripped off that I pumped so much money into my warbird now that there's a new ship that better suits my desire to har!@#$%^&* players in center.

All rocketing items have been removed from the spider, including existing spiders (players got full refunds). Took away semiwarp too.

 

Disruptor has been slowed somewhat, and had its energy increased.

 

Levi max energy decreased to 4000. Initial unchanged (2000).

 

Lanc max energy increased to 4000. Initial set to 2500. Thrust and speed penalties for turrets halved.

 

EDIT: Increased WB's initial energy to 950, and max to 1500

Changed tacnuke to fire faster, and moab to cost less but fire more slowly.

i actually think levi rotation should be slowed a bit, a bomber is a slow perosn who shoots from far away and usually stays safe (think of airplane bombers) they have !@#$%^&*istance of fighter jets (in this case, warbirds should do the job) and bomb heavy buildings (or in this case, huge ships) when playing against a levi i found the rotation could outbeat my circling around at close range, matches speed and with it being a tnak, its hard to kill unless u have something to trick it. So mostly, reduce rotation by like 1 or something.

i agree swift, a small decrease in rotation would balance it out a little bit. the small decrease in max energy helped as well, but its still a tank. it's role is that of a bomber so high energy is pretty important, but rotation could definately go for a tweak.

 

brain i like the additional changes to spider and the max energy changes to lanc and levi. maybe lanc should be maxed somewhere at 3400-3800 instead of 4000? Seems a bit tankish, but not such a bad thing. Overall i like it, and love the halving of thrust/speed penalties for turrets.

while that is done, i think we are forgetting something, what about newbies who start late? they fight against tanks, we need some sort of solution for them

 

also about weasel, i think u should get rid of falcon missile, and he missile for the weasel as it would defeat the purpose of the weasel specific bombs

Im guessing brain is still doing the refund thing one type of item at a time james cause I still have quantum on my wb.

 

Yea i think HE should be removed from wzl...multiple bounce for falc is already good, multiply bounce of HE is pretty strong...if used properly XD
