Or they've just matured faster, and the guys their age don't cut it. There's nothing wrong with a 14 year old dating a 17 year old in my mind. I know neither of the people, so I can't really judge. It's obvious that you were hurt by an older guy or know someone who was, but that doesn't mean that all, or even most older guys are bad. My friend married his girl friend of 3 years when he was 21, they're only three years apart and they met when he was 18 and she was 16. He treats her like a frickin queen.

I was a 17 year old boy once, I know what most 17 year old boys look for. Not all, but most. Call me overprotective but I would not be happy with it. And besides that it will be illegal for them to be active in a year.

 

Now if she were 18 and he was 21 I would be ok with that. There is a lot of maturing that goes on between young teens and old teens. And from my personal experience in high school, the girls that dated older guys mostly did it to brag about dating older guys.

i've repeated myself over and over again, that the observations made cover where i grew up.

BUT being in school and learning about socialization which includes the reasons behind girls making such decisions,

i'm sure i can use that and apply it to this situation, no?

if you went and asked a sociologist/psychologist today...i can guarantee you that they will have a list of the reasons leading up to such choices.

The only sure way to deal with it, is to take it on a case by case basis. If my 14 yo daughter came home with a 17 yo boy, I cant say at all what id think ahead of time. It would entirly depend on my impresion of my daugthters level of maturity and that of the boy she brought home. Age may be a generalizing factor you can use to take a wild stab at the most likely outcome, but in any case were other factors can be used, they should be, becuase age (as a factor for determining inteligence, maturity and in fact almost anyting) is very useless.
