davemkay Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 (edited) EDITOk so thats not the cause, but i think im close, i ran a reg cleaner, error killer, after i ran it the game started doing it again, so i restored the registry from a backup i made before running it and it worked fine again, so the problem must be with a registry key that most likely gets taken out by some reg cleaners, gonna see if i can figure out which one it is. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well i was getting the bit where contiuum wouldnt load and would just hop around the task manager using up 100% cpu on this computer, a little while ago i bought a new sound card, ever since then its worked problem free. I think the issue may have something to do with the lightning sound when you start continuum, before i bought this card i was just using the onboard Realtek AC 97, so i think it has something to do with the onboard card and most likely that opening lightning sound. I havent tried this cuz i dont feel like uninstalling the card but perhaps getting rid of that sound would solve the problem if you dont feel like simply getting a new sound car, which, if your running onbaord, you should aways as they sap your cpu cycles. Anyways, hope that helps! Best RegardsAC Edited April 23, 2007 by AbsoluteChaos
Shock Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Heh, that's really weird. Not saying you're wrong or anything... but, if that were the case, then why does it work if you reformat your PC? That's been the solution to the problem for others, but reformatting wouldn't have anything to do with hardware issues.
Samapico Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 disabling the splash screen can be done easily from the options window (that is if you can start it up ) Or go in registry editor: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Continuum\Optionsfind the 'SkipSplash' value, set it to 1 wow... just found something somewhat interesting - totally useless though - in the registry... there's a 'EnergyBarState' value... when set to 1, your energy bar will look like... hmm... not much actuallyand it only shrinks from the right, instead of shrinking from both sides like the normal energy bar lol there's a registry entry for a 'tip of the day' thing... if you activate if you just get a 'tip file is missing.' message box 'StatusState' ... when set to 1, the display at top right shows your info in text only (freq, bounty, flags, energy) ... I learned that team frequencies are in GHz
davemkay Posted April 21, 2007 Author Report Posted April 21, 2007 Well i had this issue too, and i did reformat and it worked for about two days before it started doing it again, it could be some sort of corruption of the drivers, or perhaps it forces windows to handle it in a way not properly supported by the card, or perhaps its a conflict with something else trying to use the same resource of the sound card as continuum at the same time and it works again after formatting cuz that thing isnt installed anymore, im not saying that this is for sure the soultion but all i know is since i put in the new card i have yet to have it freeze even once.
davemkay Posted April 23, 2007 Author Report Posted April 23, 2007 OK so scratch that i was wrong, but i think im close this time, so i ran error killer, a popular registry cleaning utility, after i ran that continuum stopped working again, then i restored my registry and now it works again, so whatever causes it is a registry key that seems to get removed, im gonna look through the backup and see if i can maybe figure out which key it is.
PoLiX Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Actually the energy bar can be changed in the options. On Display you can change your weapons gauges to text, status gauge (top right) to test, and your energy bar to subtle aka what you showed.
