Hey, this one might be a little tricky for ya.

Whenever I play continuum my PC seems to shut down but the lights at the front of the PC seem to stay on, to turn the PC back on I have to either hold the power button down or take the power cord out to restart it. Ive been playing continuum for a couple of years on this PC and its only just started happening now. It never seems to happen whenever I dont play continuum. So got any ideas?

Does this happen when running any other games? Do you get "No SIgnal" on your monitor? If so then most likely your powersupply is going and youll be needing a new one. When a game engages your GPU it draws more power from the powersuply, if the psu is weak or dieing then the vid card wont get enough and your system will simply stop.

HOwever if your computer restarts or dumps only when you try to exit contiuum from in game then its because of a security feature built into the amd athalon 64 that for some reason thinks the way the video card tries to terminate the application and empty the memory is malicious and simply restuarts the computer to prevent damage, in this case just update your video card drivers, actually you should update them anyways you never know lol.

Ive been able to play Sims 2, unreal tournament and a few other games and it hasnt turned itself off yet, maybe I just havent played them long enough for it to happen though. It would be a pain ni the !@#$%^&* if it is the PSU because I bought a new one about 6 months ago :/

Oh so it happens after a certain ammout of time playing? In that case id say your overheating, get speedfan(just google it,m it, its free) and check to see what your running at, your comp may need a cleaning or some more heat trasnfer material on the cpu, maybe a seasd fan.

Its definately an overheating issue. I'm having the same problem yet mine is set to reboot when it over heats. I need a new cpu fan, and ordered one that was off from the measurments listed and doesn't fit. So to fix the problem I use a box fan on it with the case off.

Lol thats what I have at the moment!

I will try a new fan, if the fan doesnt work then i will assume its the PSU, if i buy a PSU and it still does it then i'll buy a sledge hammer...

hey how about this.... when i get my laptop to goto college, ill send you my computer (for a charge + shipping) and completely factory wipe it and reset it with XP Home (sorry, XP Pro didnt come with it. and trust me, i have had a hassle with drivers when i tried to install XP Pro onto another HD)

Try the following:

Keep Speedfan running, load up ms calculator (start -> run -> "calc.exe"). Enter the equation " 999999999999!" (view -> scientific).

Monitor how high your temperatures get and if your PC goes blank.

And FYI, Temp1 is probably your ch!@#$%^&*is and Temp2 your CPU.

It is definatly the fan, the fan keeps locking. PC shut down at 82C yesterday, ive temporarily fixed the fan but it wont last long.

I have ordered a new one that should arrive sometime this week, hopefully this will solve the problem.

it will and in the meanwhile you can deploy an external cooling system. aka take the case off and put a fan on it lol

Haha yeah I did that, the new fan arrived along with a new heatsink, its alot quieter and alot cooler in there now. It stays below 40C. Problem solved.

Thanks for the help everyone
