Incomplete Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Hey, this one might be a little tricky for ya. Whenever I play continuum my PC seems to shut down but the lights at the front of the PC seem to stay on, to turn the PC back on I have to either hold the power button down or take the power cord out to restart it. Ive been playing continuum for a couple of years on this PC and its only just started happening now. It never seems to happen whenever I dont play continuum. So got any ideas?
davemkay Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 (edited) Does this happen when running any other games? Do you get "No SIgnal" on your monitor? If so then most likely your powersupply is going and youll be needing a new one. When a game engages your GPU it draws more power from the powersuply, if the psu is weak or dieing then the vid card wont get enough and your system will simply stop. HOwever if your computer restarts or dumps only when you try to exit contiuum from in game then its because of a security feature built into the amd athalon 64 that for some reason thinks the way the video card tries to terminate the application and empty the memory is malicious and simply restuarts the computer to prevent damage, in this case just update your video card drivers, actually you should update them anyways you never know lol. Incomplete Posted April 22, 2007 Author Report Posted April 22, 2007 Ive been able to play Sims 2, unreal tournament and a few other games and it hasnt turned itself off yet, maybe I just havent played them long enough for it to happen though. It would be a pain ni the !@#$%^&* if it is the PSU because I bought a new one about 6 months ago :/
davemkay Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 Oh so it happens after a certain ammout of time playing? In that case id say your overheating, get speedfan(just google it,m it, its free) and check to see what your running at, your comp may need a cleaning or some more heat trasnfer material on the cpu, maybe a seasd fan.
Incomplete Posted April 23, 2007 Author Report Posted April 23, 2007 My fan has been messing up a little recently. When I get home later this week i'll post the results for it.
Synook Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 Does the hard drive and fans, etc. stop? Or does the screen just go blank? It may be a video problem...
Incomplete Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 The fan in the PC stops, monitor goes blank. It's as though the PC turns itself off but leaves the PC lights on.
rootbear75 Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 It's as though the PC turns itself off but leaves the PC lights on.Hibernation?
Incomplete Posted April 30, 2007 Author Report Posted April 30, 2007 Like hibernating but the PC doesnt turn back on unless its turned off properly.
NBVegita Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 Its definately an overheating issue. I'm having the same problem yet mine is set to reboot when it over heats. I need a new cpu fan, and ordered one that was off from the measurments listed and doesn't fit. So to fix the problem I use a box fan on it with the case off.
Incomplete Posted April 30, 2007 Author Report Posted April 30, 2007 Lol thats what I have at the moment! I will try a new fan, if the fan doesnt work then i will assume its the PSU, if i buy a PSU and it still does it then i'll buy a sledge hammer...

Incomplete Posted April 30, 2007 Author Report Posted April 30, 2007 Dont you have a gay gfx card? Nah if I get a new PC it will be a top of the range one. I'll need a top of the range PC to play Crysis
rootbear75 Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 (edited) gfx card does fine. i have only run into a problem with it recently and if i get a new gfx like i still plan to...... Edited April 30, 2007 by rootbear75
Incomplete Posted April 30, 2007 Author Report Posted April 30, 2007 Well you should checkout some Crysis trailers anyway. Most realistic game ever.
JoWie Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Try the following: Keep Speedfan running, load up ms calculator (start -> run -> "calc.exe"). Enter the equation " 999999999999!" (view -> scientific).Monitor how high your temperatures get and if your PC goes blank. And FYI, Temp1 is probably your ch!@#$%^&*is and Temp2 your CPU.
Incomplete Posted May 8, 2007 Author Report Posted May 8, 2007 It is definatly the fan, the fan keeps locking. PC shut down at 82C yesterday, ive temporarily fixed the fan but it wont last long.I have ordered a new one that should arrive sometime this week, hopefully this will solve the problem.
NBVegita Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 it will and in the meanwhile you can deploy an external cooling system. aka take the case off and put a fan on it lol
