How come Love is copying Viles avatar blum.gif

And prehaps we should keep this as a event for a while until we get enough coverage and alot more people liking it before we sling it into pub. I know using as a event was the first idea to test it but prehaps keeping it as that until its more setteled will fit people better. Dont suprise them like when the new settings came in, that got me ticked off when Zeke did that lol

Oh, I don't even want it tested yet actually. It's not finished.

I'm going to create 2 other flag rooms instead of having 4 "mirrored" flag rooms.

Might do that tomorrow.

For the record, of everyone who've commented on the map (about 15+) only one said that he dislikes it ;D

Funni thing is that he's the co-cap of Feroce and IRL friend (XorX) heheh.

But uh, it's not completed yet. Not even ready for testing

i dont know if i articulated this thought before, or if i did if did so well. so here goes.

i do not think that removing the ball-play from the public map is a good idea. there needs to be an objective. "hold all the flags" you say. "what for?" i say. for more points? you'd be surprised the number of times i've had to explain that (in this zone) the flags increase points/kill as well as the timed bonuses.

there's no immediate goal for people to focus on. no "help score" or "help defend enemy incoming at our goal" messages to focus the team. i think it'd just turn into "i need help getting this flag at %area (%coord) attach now!" kind of deal. and then there's no FOCUS. you have a bunch of 1v1 or 2v2 battles inside the bases (Which i realized there was two of before blum.gif ), or even worse just mindless killing in the middle.

i strongly think the ball should stay in 17th, as it focuses the public play easily and without direct controls. and it still provides an objective for a league-based map too.

*wild guess*

You still haven't checked it out, have you? lol

1) I think that the objective would be pretty clear once they read the greeting message.

"Welcome to 17th Parallel. Hold your territory while attempting to take over your adversary's."

2) It's stationary flags, not mobile.

3) I've already explained why I don't want any other game in the pub map.

Yeah, the ball game is easy. But if I kept it, the pub would have different objectives, THAT is what would cause the loss of focus.

I mean, just look at pub now. You have like 4 different objectives, so there is no focus. Everyone is doing something different or just killing for the -*BAD WORD*- of it.

I think the objective of "holding your own territory" is as clear as "score the ball" lålz, Just that the second one is easier to perform.

noone flags in north, and the north base rarely has more than 4 people in it (2 from each team).

i know that you've tried to make the objective to hold territory and take your enemies, but really there's no "victory" or beginning/end to it. you log on, you fight some battles without any end in sight, and you leave without a sense of having won a game. the ball game does that now. put flags in the ball bases and remove north and you're all set. then the flags become steps on the way to scoring with the ball.

Talion, that's what the bot is for, to host games :

The public arena would need a bot that is modified for pub, e.g. it wouldn't have any half time breaks.
put flags in the ball bases and remove north and you're all set. then the flags become steps on the way to scoring with the ball.

Heh, that has been tried before, in different ways too, and there's a reason why it has failed.

enlighten the masses then as to why it failed.

talking about this bot is great, but IT is not in your arena (which i have been in now). until it's done, saying "the bot will handle it" is wishful thinking.

Posted

Well as I said, this isn't finished, if it was, it would probably already been tested by now.

"Wishful thinking"? This whole idea comes from my wishful thinking, and I'm making it to reality, but as I've said, it's not finished yet.

This bot will be made sooner or later. I won't test the game before everything (including the bot) is finished.

enlighten the masses then as to why it failed.

You can't just put some flags where it looks good in a base. The reason why I believe that it failed is because the base wasn't designed for the flag game.

Ok, Here are two more of my cents. (heh, if I keep this up, you'll be rich)

I will have to agree with talion on this one. Some of the greatest games I've played in 17th have been soccer games. Now you said:

The reason why I believe that it failed is because the base wasn't designed for the flag game.

Well, it seems that this base has been designed to flag, and also has great potential for a ball game. I dont see why we cant compromise and have them both.

The zone seems too long. Maybe its just becuase its goes from top to bottom, but it just seems longer.

I agree with Zioneer. So lets just try it out as soon as Zioneer finishes it. Maybe it can be put on friday?

(Zioneer I am a programmer; Send me a message if you need some help with the bot.)

I think everyone agrees that 17th parallel zone needs a good boost so that alot more players come to 17th; maybe the soccer idea is not so good for pub map.

But you should remember that a new map would not give the desired effect in one day. It will take alot of time for 17th to gain more players IF 17th got a succesfull public map.

Your map still gives no sollution to the biggest problem, making people do what they are suppose to do. When they spawn in your center they will just go at eachother and don't bother about bases at all. What we need is a map that spawns the freqs in different places (drop-zones). Just the thought that your own troops and the enemy troops enter the combat field in the same place is stupid.

So fix drop-zones and force the newbies to fight in ONE place (not two bases), or put speedball in pub. Now that's a plan...

Posted

17th should have 2 bases, otherwise you could just rename the zone.

And, if they all get spawned in the same base then how are they supposed to lock it?

Sure, any newbie can go anywhere and don't have to fight, but that's because they don't know what the game is about yet.

A bot would clarify that you win when you have most points, and you need to flag to get points.

Finally someone get's it..

I dunno really why you are all obsessed with bases. A battlefield would more likely be filled with bunkers, tunnels and ruins. I public map should be something like the north map in speedball (the new one), if you make it larger and change it a bit.

But as I have said before, if we want to have a good pub we'd have to make our own zone delic..

Posted

Haha probably.

But the thing with bases is that to perform a successful attack, you need to form your troops and plan how you are going to manuever.

If everyone is just thrown inside a base then they are forced to fight unprepared, basically.

Posted

Hm, right, no base, just a battlefield. People killing eachother, and that's it?

You mean something like speedflag right? Well, it's a nice event but I prefer a pub that involves more elements (tactics etc).
