It really depends on the extent of the seminar and the people teaching it. If it's a bunch of a reASSS, I'm sure you know what you'll get out of it. blum.gif

Why is this in Feedback and Support?

Why would you want to code in C++ or .NET ? Is it for your career or do you want to program for Continuum? If you do it for your career, choose .NET. It's (Microsoft's) future and being used the most. If you want to use for coding for Continuum, then it would be best to learn C++ imo.

Unless you want to have a realy nice paying job, then you should learn C++ ^^. .NET coders are a dime a dozen, a well trained C++ coder who knows the win32 api inside and out and can create a large business app _without_ a framework can demand a munch better sallery than a VB monkey that can pump out stuff in 2 days that has to be patched every day for the next several years before the customer gets sick of dealing with it and goes somewhere else to have it rewritten in C++ blum.gif Realy its all a matter of scale, most small shops that make small apps work in VB or .NET. Most larger shops that create much larger business apps, generaly work in C++ ^^.

My main thing when I first started "creating zones" and such was to learn C++ to code bots and such for Continuum. But now as Smong says, it would look good on my resume. I'm going to school for Network Administration.

The power seminar teaches .Net AND C++. It's an 8 week seminar, 1 hour a week. I don't know how effective it will be or what, but I am definitely taking it.

8 hours of instruction on .NET _and_ C++ isnt even enough to make you dangerous ^^.. But honestly, your best bet is to teach yourself, if you cant find the motivation for that, then you probably dont have the dedication to be a good coder. Books are your best friend, mostly refrence books, but thier are some instructional books as well. Stear clear of Teach Yourself ANYTHING in X number of Days. Thier are some realy good web resources for learning C++ that I know of.

Mabye those will be helpfull to you. Also EFnet and freenode IRC servers have some good chanels for intelligent questions (dont ask stupid questions or youll be ridiculed blum.gif ) Google and MSDN will be your best friends. Also id recomend "obtaining" by some means a copy of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Pro or Team System.

most used language for learning is java, most used language in offices: pascal (yeah be happy that you don't have to do fortran >.> almost anymore) , vb6 and powerbuilder, most used language in game development c,c++ (maybe c#), most used language for server and networks: !@#$%^&*embly, c for fast and greedy subroutines, java and vb for interactive programs that communicate with it.
