Out of 18 listed netops: Only 9 have been on in the last week and only 6 in the last 24 hours. One of which is online now, but is currently AFK. Or ignoring people. who knows ^^

Now I know posting here will get nothing done. I just wanted to state that maybe we should rethink the current NetOp policy. Like for larger zones permit more then one level1 BanG Op. Or to possibly just find a few more active available netops in general. I've got no real solution for this. Other then there are quite a few known players among alot of zones that would make good possible netops. (I'm refering to alot of secondary sysops of most zones.

I also don't mean for this post to insult anyone. I understand everyone has lives here. But I do still think we need more available netops. Or atleast active ones. smile.gif

Prittk and GS alias, and even though MGB doesn't play much in-game, he can always be found on his forum. And Mackieman...well, who cares about Mackieman anyway?

The logic of this discussion is flawed because it !@#$%^&*umes far too much. For instance,

many of the NetOp's on that list do not use the nick that has their lvl 1 BanG acccess.

Either that, some NetOp's have lvl 1 access on a nick not represented on that list.

Also, it does not take into account that those with lvl 1 access also tend to be the Sysop

or owner of the zone. On that basis, as is the case for me, they can be contacted by

members of their Staff. In my case, if anyone in my Staff needs to contact me they

know to either e-mail me, or in emergencies all the Smods have my mobile phone

number.

Just because ?find XYZ says note online in the past 24 hours does not make it so. Nor

does it mean that SS does not have NetOp's that are capable of fulfilling their duties.

Therefore, this discussion has no redeeming qualities because it !@#$%^&*umes too much.

Unless there is something I missed other than 'The NetOp's aren't online, cry me a

river'.

GS = Aliased - Not online, last seen 5 days ago

Mr Ekted = Ekted, play pb and you'd see that happened long ago

Pointman = Aliased (And PM not being his original alias at that even)

Wonderer = Retired, so not sure.

Those ones I can atleast answer for. We're just lacking European ops is all, that is the big issue for most. They'd be able to cover a lot of those "5hrs, 12hrs" issues. That was what was nice about Loops especially, since he was Aussie, he was always there when most ops weren't.

I tend to get most of the European/Asian issues. But more often than not unless there

is an NA awake throughout the night Euro and Asian times tend to be not as covered.

But it is covered.

Anyway, all I am saying is that if people think that there is a problem with availability

they should ask or investigate the matter a bit more before rushing to conclusions.

For the most part, SS is well looked after when it comes to this blum.gif

as already stated, most of them alias. I see ghost about every 3 days at the least, and he's always reachable via ICQ. !@#$%^&* I could reach ghost ship a lot faster than I could get ahold of SVS, and he was our sysop :/

To true freak.

I'm not aware there was a list aaside from that one I found showing who are netops. And if I do indeed have a net-related issue, I'm not going to go zone to zone going "?help Any netops on?" just to have the majority of the zones staff badger me with what it is about until it I finally explain the entire situation to them going "sorry, I can't do anything about it, and our netop isn't on" Which has happened on more then one occasion. Including in DSB.

Your probably right that there is a large amount of netops I'm not aware of. However considering for the longest time of SVS being our inactive netop, I've searched for netops. Minus going ?listban, and hoping one of the last 100 bans worth of netops are on. (Normally being disconnected for ?finding 20 differe aliases, I can never seem to get ahold of one.

Honestly, I've never had a problem that I can't inevitably sort out. I've either went and got the person locally banns in whichever zone they flock to after I've banned them in mine. Then I can normally find you, kewlair, svs, or jeri within a few days when I need something done. Normally kewlair the fastest, as funny as that is... But Unless someone is willing to make a publicised list on who people can contact. It kinda voids the purpose of having netops. "They are there, you just don't know who they are!" Doesn't really help in the slightest.

I didn't mean to upset you hoch. Or expect anything done, I just like ranting. Besides... GS has finally given freakmonger netop in MG, so I soppose I don't have to worry anymore. ^^ tootles.

LOL! Don't flatter yourself mate. You wanted to rant and so you did. I merely pointed

out the fallacies in both your argumentation and methodology. But, as I do this for a

living I decided to do it for free! :D

To avoid abuse to the system, the zone netops are responsible for their own zones. We don't like having netops from other zones doing bans that aren't from their own zone. The only ones allowed to do such bans are the BanG Administrators.

That being said, we don't have a public list of netops. But the only current BanG administrator is Kewlair.

That being said, is there some sort of written policy to that extent Mike, or is it just !@#$%^&*umed that new NetOps would adhere to this seemingly fabricated guideline? As I'm quite guilty of having done perhaps four such favours at the request of other SSC zones, none of which were later questioned.

I can see how such practices could be exploited though. For instance, if the actioning NetOp did not first confirm the legitimacy of the request and the person requesting it with the staff of the residing zone and the whole process was a ruse to have their idiot friend netbanned for ASSS and giggles.

Otherwise if the netban comment did not otherwise state that it was created as an external request, none would be the wiser and would appear normal as if the cheater had in fact cheated in the zone the actioning NetOp resided in.

My point is; anyone with L1+ is entrusted to be honourable enough to keep the BanG system free of abuse. It's hardly a common enough scenario to warrant admin stepping in to regulate these "handshake bans". In the rare occasions I do make them, I keep it all well do!@#$%^&*ented and cite references. I imagine anyone else would too. The only aspect of it that should be a concern to BanG administration is if the machine ID is common.

You grossly misunderstood what MTN wrote. Level 1 BanG Operators are created

and defined by the zone in which they operate. Thus, they should only exercise

their level of BanG authority in that zone. It is not, therefore, prohibitory per se to

execute a ban outside of that defined area. Rather, it should only be done when

cir!@#$%^&*stances allow for it.

Of course netbans are made by a NetOp not of that zone. You would be hard

pressed to find an experienced NetOp that has not. That said, these are decisions

which should ordinarily be made by the BanG Administrators (though right there is

only one but that soon will change). But again, it is not prohibitory per se and more

of the exception than the rule.
