Hakaku Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 (edited) So what did happen to pyxlz's client? Did he ever decide to finish it? http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/2622/subspace0182gt5.th.gif Edit: for those curious, the client can connect to certain ASSS zones, but since it's flawed, you can only do so much with it. I was able to chat, but not read anything. I could also place random thors on the map as spectator - client side only. You can enter in a ship and shoot normally for about a minute before being specced for excessive lag ; once specced, you a draw bombs lvl3 on the map (client-side only). Through Continuum, you can't see the Subspace 0.182 client playing though, but it will be able to see the Continuum client playing. Edited March 30, 2007 by Hakaku
»Maverick Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 it died as it was expected because of its closed-source nature.
Hakaku Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 (edited) Figured that much. The version above is 0.182, taken off subspace downloads. Would anyone happen to still have a copy of version 0.190 or other? Edited March 30, 2007 by Hakaku
Smong Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 I don't think it died just because it was "closed source". Cont is closed source and that hasn't died Why do you want 0.190? Surely it is of not much use.
»doc flabby Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 The difference is cont was finished before the person who created it disappeared
Hakaku Posted April 2, 2007 Author Report Posted April 2, 2007 @Purge: Well, I just wanted to see how far the client had got. Aside, I managed to get in contact with Pyxlz recently. And he agreed, since he could no longer develop his client, that he'd release the source code for his client (currently unnamed). Eventually, it will be placed on Sourceforge, so it'll be easier to manage. Since he's busy with other things, he may only be able to give pointers here and then, but he'd like for others to continue working on it. One thing to note is that the source was never designed to be maintained by other people, and in its current state it may not be compilable. Last I checked, it is written in C++ with Opengl and DirectX, and you may need to download DirectX sdk to get it working. I currently have the source, but I'm definitely not experienced enough with this type of stuff, and any/all help would be appreciated. Feel free to contact me or Pyxlz himself at the moment, I'll post updates when any occur.
Synook Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 That is nice...Yes, it is true, but also, even though the Continuum client was closed source I belive there was a team of people working on it, as opposed to a single person. In that way, they were able to keep each other's minds on task and share ideas. However, as pyxlz's client was only being developed by him when he lost interest, the project was lost with him.Reminds me of some of my projects - especially the larger ones . You just stop thinking about it after a while...
