i have one thing to say

I dont want you to convert me

I dont feel like i have to defend my religion

I dont like talking about religion in the first place.

 

ONE example of this came up today when i was talking with confess

I kept telling him to stop talking to me about religion, but would he stop? no....

Thats not the only reason why you were denied Netop, Root. It is because of several reasons:

 

1. You arent patient, kind, or in anyway respectful, especially of someone when you want something.

 

2. You demanded (and yes, you did demand) Netop, and bugged and har!@#$%^&*ed me several times for it.

 

3. SST is and will always be a Christian Run organization, network and biller. We want to publically spread the faith without the fault of 'OMG DONT TALK TO ME'. If you dont want to be talked to, dont enter?

Well, I for one don't like Baptists, primarily because they have a huge tendancy to act like this.

 

However, there's a trick to dealing with either Baptists and similar Calvanist offshoots. I'll tell you what it is, though sub-conciously you already know it.

 

See, us Catholics are currently getting the most converts of any religion by non-violent means, though we admittingly can't keep up with Islam's "join our peacefull religion or we'll shoot you and your family" arguement. See, we preferr to let our actions speak for us. Our favorite tactic is to move in to third world villiages, improve the place, and then after the people of the villiage are living a much better life then ask them to convert. Its dangerous work, because most of these places are filled with violence and disease. However, currently Catholicism is spreading accrossed Africa very quickly.

 

Baptists however are weak. They don't go to the third world to convert. They don't go anywhere that doesn't have cons!@#$%^&*utionalised free speech protection. They prefer places like college campuses where there are no significant problems, pick a street corner and just talk and talk and talk. There's no action. They offer no proof that they are worth listening to. Usually something so small as the rain will cause them to pack up and go home.

 

Confess+ is doing the same thing. He only engages in an environment that is comfortable for him. You can defeat people like this by changing the environment. In your case, you already have decided to change the environment from his own zone to this topic, so deep down you already know how to deal with him.

 

 

 

When they preach, its always about fire and brimstone, which is a very dumb way to try to persuade someone. The path of true righteousness is difficult, and Christ demands that his followers carry their own burdens and defeat their own demons. Following Christ is a path of great difficulty and pain. It is paradoxical to tell someone that they should voluntarily endure one type of pain for the purpose of avoiding another type of pain.

 

I'm certainly not a model Christian. The reason I follow Christ is because I despise evil. Its better than "I'm a chicken!@#$%^&* and am afraid of !@#$%^&*" but still isn't proper. The proper reason to follow God is out of love for that which is good. When attempting to convert somebody, that is the motivation you should try for.

If you have not played Real Life™ enough yet, you should know by now the best approach to a situation like this that you are not pleased with is simply to ignore and/or move away from the discussion or region of discussion.

I find the whole concept of 'converting' people just dumb... Actually the whole concept of religion seems really stupid to me as well... There's nothing wrong in 'believing' in 'something' , whatever it is, but the only thing religions do is say 'hey, THIS is what you should believe in, believe this, not anything else, other beliefs suck'

Every religion wants to convince everyone that they are the 'true path' to whatever... Are humans so stupid they can't decide what they believe in themselves?

I was kind of 'forced' into catholism as soon as I was born when I was baptized. That's not what I believe in, let my imagination have some fun and find me something to believe in...

 

Hmm... my thoughts are probably incomplete and hard to follow there... I'm tired... I have nothing against religion, just something against the fact that religions are 'organized', cause it contradicts the definition of a belief, which is what 'you' believe in...

and i am not impatient, unless the person im talking doesnt get something after MULTIPLE times of saying the same thing in multiple ways...

Usually that's because the indigenous cultures happen to be living in squalor and violence.

 

I mean at first glance there's nothing wrong with tribalism. Look deeply however and the average lifespan for your typical indigenous tribe is somewhere around 30. They typically have no educational opportunities and few occupational freedoms.

 

Anthropologists have a very cruel opinion on these matters, though by accident. They frankly don't like the work of missionaries because they want to study the tribes. Tribes aren't some sort of science experiment to be studied - they are human beings who should have a right to pursue the life they want to. However, because they are born in a tribe, their only choice is grow up, hunt for food their entire lives, and die a death that is premature by modern standards. If the tribal were born in a more civilized area, he might have pursued an education and could have decided to be a doctor, astronaut, or anthropologist for that matter and could easily haved lived twice as long.

 

So, why preserve the tribal traditions? To save the tribe for observation by future generations? Human beings are not meant to live in a zoo! To preserve proud traditions? First off I wouldn't consider stabbing an animal with a wooden spear while wearing a loincloth inherently proud or noble. Nor would I want people to live that life just to preserve some traditions that have long outlived their usefullness anyway. Third of all, that which is worth preserving of these traditions, such as art and cermonies and such, usually survive anyway. Actually, after the tribe modernises and starts to spread around the world, the traditions seem to spread around the world as well, creating new types of celebrations.

 

Cultures are machinery by which people live. Like all machinery though, they can sometimes break, and obsolesence is inevitable. After a tool becomes obsolete, it has no place outside of a museum. This applies to cultures as well.

 

Most missionary work occurs in poor shanty towns however. Its the same thing except that there is no culture to speak of, just people living in poverty, beset by violence, plagued by disease. They lack food, water, shelter, health care, education, peace, and a future. They lack things that we take for granted, that we rightfully take for granted because human beings deserve such things provided they work for them. Most of all, they have no hope of ever getting themselves out of that mess. You would deny that hope in the name of cultural diversity?

 

Yes, sometimes when you take a stand, you can be wrong. That is not a proper excuse to be nuetral in all things. You might fight for the wrong cause by mistake, or the right cause may be corrupted by the overzealous. However, the action of not taking an action has consequences, and more often than not the consequence of apathy is far worse than the consequence of misguided action.

And for saying that the way to god is through Jesus you first should learn, outside of the church and the bible, what Jesus was actually teaching, compare that to what the church teaches, and then you might start to get disgusted with your organized religion.

 

In fact some main idea Jesus spread were against organized worship, he believed the true way to god was through yourself. A man should pray in a closed room in the privacy of his own home, his prayers should be between himself and God. Also he taught against using repe!@#$%^&*ive prayer, as if you recite the same prayer over and over it loses its meaning. Each prayer should come from the individual, and from his heart. That one is for all of you who recite the same things over and over in mass

 

Faith cannot be proven, that is why it is faith. Some people belive in their God, other believe in their God. Neither is wrong. Neither is right.

 

And the only things they have proven about the bible is that some of the places, and some of the people actually existed. You cannot prove the events true or false. I mean historians and religious advocates can't even get the location that jesus gave his sermon on the mount correct.

Taken out of context. This was meant to be in private as compared to the pharisees of the day and others who often prayed loudly in public places in order to draw more attention to themselves being religious rather than to actually communicate with God

 

Anyway, lets not start a huge argument about flaws in religion, that wasnt the topic of this thread.

For the most part, I can agree root overreacted here.

 

But that doesn't absolve Con of all responsibility.

 

Most people understand that discussions about religion almost always degrade themselves into nothing more than an immature flame-fest.

 

Con knew he was asking for an argument, and if he didn't think that preaching about his religion to others would start one, he is clearly a dumb!@#$%^&*.

 

So yeah, root should have the maturity to just ignore Con.

But that doesn't mean that Con shouldn't have the maturity to respect the fact that not everyone has the same set of beliefs as himself, and that unless invited to discuss such matters, other people probably don't give a !@#$%^&* what he has to say about the matter.

Lol. i hate it too when people come to my door at 8 on a Saturday morning, and ask me about religion, about converting me, about god, about whatever else they want me to believe. The next person comming to by door will be the unlucky one...the one that didnt get away...because i will lose my head. Choices:
