Muskrat Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 So you're saying that if you go to college, you aren't expecting a good job?Why pay thousands of dollars just for "knowledge" This knowledge you can learn on the internet, other people, experience, books, T.V.You pay thousands of dollars for in return, make thousands of dollars. So you go to college to get knowledge so you can use that knowledge to make money.1. I didn't say that, I was talking about how education can be a god(little g), i.e. something to use in explaining life as well as sustaining life. The entire point of that is education, as something which will provide you with the means to live(said job), as well as the means to contemplate living, can become a pretty encomp!@#$%^&*ing aspect of your life, and therefore be an important consideration for life's meaning.2. I don't know about you but I'm not paying for college other than in taxes, which you pay regardless of whether you go to college.3. Like I said before, If you don't think you aren't getting a lot more out of college than a better job think again. Trade and technical schools can give you that. But, you might say, the best jobs still want a real degree. Why? because people with a degree have a better understanding of who they are, what they are doing in life, etc. and that directly translates to having a better mind and thus performing more than a set niche role in the workplace.Obviously, you fit into one of those categories I listed before about people who think college is jsut to get a better job.
Aileron Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 The best way to answer the question must involve contemplating a universe which contains no life. A universe which contains no life could hypothetically contain many wonders, but no being would experience them. As absurd as it is, the meaning of life question is related to the "If a tree falls in the forest but nobody hears it, does it make a sound?". Regardless of the answer to that question, it is clear that without someone around to hear it, the sound has no relevancy. The tree could sound like a tree falling, or make no sound, or sound like a duck quacking for that matter yet it would contain no relevance because no one experienced it. Without life, the universe with all its wonders would be like a painting in a box or a CD on a shelf. Until the painting is viewed or the CD is listened to, their contents contain no importance. The purpose of life is to provide meaning to the universe. " 'Good' is merely a point of view. " -Palpatine, Supreme Emperor of the Galactic Empire and Dark Lord of the Sith
Muskrat Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 I think that stuff would depend on whether P = NP.
Tiq Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 Asking a question about the meaning of life is vague, as all things that have life do not have much in common, besides base necessities and..the fact that they are alive. So I won't answer that. BUT, I do have the arrogance and audacity to state confidently what the meaning of human life is: choice. Human life is all about choice. Speak your mind, etc.
Slipped Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 2. I don't know about you but I'm not paying for college other than in taxes, which you pay regardless of whether you go to college. You must not live in the US. Here, it costs upwards of $10-15k a year to go to college, depending on where you go. Almost everyone pays quite a bit for college unless they got a full scholorship to some school, and those full rides are definitely not given to everyone. -SlippedSSCC Metal Gear CTF SysOp

Obsol33t Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 I drink coffee once in awhile, but it's not the drink I usually prefer to get me going in the morning. I think it's called Yerba Mat'e, I always forget. It's equal to drinking two cups of coffee and it doesn't have that crash effect that other caffinated drinks do.
