Anyone ever been in a Gopher?

All this ss stuff is making me feel nostalgic so i thought I'd make a thread about the ancient gopher protocol. is anyone here even old enough to remember?

 

back when I was like 10 I remember going into one with IE4. that was in 1998 and most of them were already down then. I set up my own server not so long ago to keep the thing alive. but ya know the gophers still around today, got lots of goodies in them from the early days of the interweb

Yes... well, the Gopher Protocol was an Information Interchange protocol set up way back in the early 1990s, and operates a bit like a combination of HTTP and FTP. Not used much nowadays...

If that was used before the World Wide Web. What the !@#$%^&* was my dad talking about??? He said you had to call into a server by phone. Sorry I just can’t remember what he called it. But I know he did not call it a Gopher

I was three and had much fun using Jump start programs if any of you people can remember that.

I never personally thought gopher was all that great. And using it in 98 is like using turbo to do graphics
