If I max out my unit production then it will only get to where I can attack 2 or 3 ppl which isn't fun at all. So I keep my UP down for now, but then its hard for me to reach #1 with a low UP. I'm not even sure its possible. Yea i've reached 2/3rd before but the #1 spot has always been the person with the most UP. How exactly is rankings setup?

I think the rankings have something to do with your UP and all your items you have equiped.

Final Ranking depends on your individual offense, defense, spy, sentry ranking. So basically you need high rankings in those areas to achieve the final ranking.

 

Ranking doesnt really depend on UP but

more UP -> more gold/hr -> more equipment/trained units -> higher ranking

There are four mini ranks in the upper corner corresponding to attack, defense, covert, and sentry. Basically your overall rank is the average of those four ranks, though technically the formula is more complicated so as to break ties. If you want to inprove your rank, you should work on your stat that is ranked the worst.

 

In the large RPGs, a popular tactic is to manipulate one's rank. For instance, all guilds in RPGs that do not have a covert lvl cap have atleast one uber spy. In wars, that player does recons on all enemy targets and posts them in a private forum, as well as sab the everloving snot out of the high ranked offenses. They usually do not build any offense or defense so that their uber account can hide amongst mediocre and sometimes even dead accounts, which allows them to survive the first volley untouched as they are overlooked.

 

Another popular tactic is to not build spy and offense until one's UP is where you want it. Again, you will hide among the bad ranks until you are ready to make a run at the top.

I might try to wipe out enough of your troops to have more soldiers too... all my soldiers are trained now, so I don't lose many of them in fights
