BlueWyvern Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 I've noticed there aren't very many sensors and not many people talk about them as they do weapons/armors etc. when they discuss what is good on a ship. Long-Range ScannerA scanner that gives the coordinates of a specified player by typing something like ?find, useful for finding flag carriers or just where the action's at. Combat ScannerA scanner that provides you with information on an enemy ship (like shipstatus but briefer), this scanner will also provide information such as how much money the given player will give you and how many items they have left. Virtual CrosshairA sensor that projects a holographic line along the fire-path of your vessel, useful for bombers such as javelins. (this projection will not bounce off walls) Flag FinderA sensor that provides the player with the coordinates of all NEUTRAL flags (ie if someone frops the scanner will not find those flags) OverchargerEnergy used to power the current sensors is diverted to weapons, prizing a player with a super power upgrade. Thanks for reading! Quote
Suicide_Run Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Nice ideas, I like long range sensor and overcharger is quite interesting. IMO combat scanner wont be that useful cause you can tell wat items they have and from 1 kill u can see how much money/exp you get. Besides its not like ppl will try to hide their exp....I find ppl would want to show off their exp more.... Quote
*rc 1223* Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 virtual crosshair would be very good for ppl that dont have good aim (me) Quote
2d spaceship gamer Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 (edited) Virtual crosshair can be done on your own by modifying the continuum files I already made one for my turret. Overcharger isn't really a "sensor". Its either a utilit, or, more appropriately, an "alien technology". It'd be nice to have an ALTERNATIVE to AD. Something like overcharger (5 seconds SUPER), or alien shields (prizes you shields that go from 100 to 0 in 10 seconds). Balance issues will need to be considered, though. You can only buy one, and either takes slot of AD, so you think which one you really need more. Long-range scanner is good idea, it can be done in spec, but will ease it up for player. Combat scanner is another good idea. It should pretty much give you the info you'd get by watching a person from spec. How much money they will give you for killing is useless, you can know it easily by adding yours and theirs bounty together. Flag finder is NOT a good idea. Hiding (and looking for) neut flags is major part of game. It'll be very unfair to have such a sensor. And in principle, I agree that we need more and bigger varied sensor. Currently 4 of my ships use extra utility, not because I really need it, but because sensors are so !@#$%^&* useless. Edited March 5, 2007 by 2d spaceship gamer Quote
11___________ Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 I like crosshair and overcharger. Long Range Scanner and Flag Finder are too cheap. They would take out most flag hunting. Quote
Sharpflame Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 I like the one that shows you the ?shipstatus of another ship. Quote
nebulou Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 (edited) i thought up a new one, dont know if its feasible or not: ion particle tracker: shows portals on screen with a name tag of who laid it, along with the amount of time the portal will remain active. really useful for chasing runwinners, and keeping your base safe. or, instead of showing portals it could tell you whenever someone warps and where they warped to. Edited March 6, 2007 by nebulou Quote
Suicide_Run Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 If its possible neb, I think it might cause some people to lag w/ all those text floating around in center. And it would kinda take away the meaning of portal since its for ppl to escape in cause ppl ill just lay a mine or 2 on top of ur portal and wait for you to port into mines. Quote
Swift Warrior Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Virtual crosshair can be done on your own by modifying the continuum files I already made one for my turret. O.o tell me how! Quote
11___________ Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 How about a sensor that lets you see a screen of your portal, or a sensor that lets you see 2x farther than you normally do? Quote
BlueWyvern Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 Well the problem with the 2x farther sensor is you could burn out people's monitors with something like that, if it's even possible... A res too big for a monitor will just make it go black because it can't handle it. Quote
rootbear75 Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 i think he meant the sensor to affect the size of the radar...how many squares on the grid you can see.. Quote
Dr Brain Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Changing res isn't possible. Changing radar is already an item, and has been since before armor worked properly. Some of the ideas on this thread aren't bad, but most of the rest aren't possible. Quote
Suicide_Run Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 You can always make Flag Finder so it tells you the sector # of where neuted flags are instead of coords....maybe that will make it better or say upper/middle/lower area of map so its more vague. And same can be done w/ Long Range if you find its too overpowered. Btw is it possible to get like a Jamming Sensor that makes it so that player's hp doesnt show when ppl see him/her? Quote
11___________ Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 how bout a sensor that is a line so you can see where you are shooting. Quote
Bomook Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 how bout a sensor that is a line so you can see where you are shooting.Virtual CrosshairA sensor that projects a holographic line along the fire-path of your vessel, useful for bombers such as javelins. (this projection will not bounce off walls)That is impossible to do in terms of the server. Quote
Evil Doom Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 the only way i can think of a "crosshair" being made is to edit the !@#$%^&* graphics so it has something on the tip of the ship (the part u shoot with) and that would kinda be like a crosshair.... BUT it cant be made like an item so u could attach it if u buy it... it would be attached to the ship at all times wheather u want it or not.... and i say if u have problems with aim... practice because i would not want aiming aids on my ship lol so as mook said the idea is impossible, i just added a lil more detail to it Quote
