Sass Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I dont play in the zone but I know that at one point 17th had a decent population. Can someone tell me (without belittling me or other players) what might have caused it to become so -- desolate? Quote
X`terrania Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Drama killed it. Drama, Complex, and the lack of motivation to do anything about it. Quote
SuckyBelchy Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 Maybe high rotation period on upper staff also. No consistency meant a lot of limbo. Quote
Trip' Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 What is this, another epilogue for 17th? This is like 10th time... Quote
The Cubbies Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 That's way more than 10 dood. I'm thinking of writing a dirge. Quote
kentbrockman Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 (edited) when 17th had a recession of a population, they launched a new pub called complex. complex being launched i believe september 2005. complex wasnt a bad idea, but it had flaws and bot problems, and after 3 weeks no one played it and they left it on for 5 months. when they put the old map back up, 17th population didnt recover back to even as bad as it was. since then, 3-5 new sysops came in, tried different maps, settings, and other stuff. they had some success but were unsuccessful in the long run. today a successful map sits in pub with 5 year old settings that some people just hate, and no bots are up, so no one wants to play. yeah, thats pretty much what happened. This comic, which ive posted before, also explains why we havnt recovered. http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comics/20061020.jpg Edited March 1, 2007 by kentbrockman Quote
NBVegita Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 well I tell ya if I go to play ss nowadays its because I'm so bored that its my last resort at entertainment. So if I come in and there are 0 peeps in the zone, I might as well watch tv, supposed to watching a black screen with stars in it. Quote
The Cubbies Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 First, Vegita speak english manG. Second, if you could just bring back tablet I'm sure 17th would be fun again. Thanks. Quote

It is the skill needed to play the game.Because, when a new person comes to a zone, they (usually) want to be able to start playing immediately. However, in the 17th, even to master the rudimentary control of the different ships requires a fair amount of time. Most new players do not want to do this. So they will just wander away, never to return (I believe the term is churning).A bit like a badly-designed website, really. Oh well... Quote

You're suggesting that we kill everything that 17th used to be? Our very foundation?! Quote
Synook Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 And I am what? No, I don't suggest that you 'kill' the foundation of the 17th parallel. I am merely making an observation of a reason why I believe the 17th has been losing popularity. Perhaps a tutorial for new players is needed Quote
