Agrajag Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Guys, I'm an old-timer. I've been away a long time but I go back to the original builds of Subspace (and worked with Virgin Games when it was published). I've just recently gotten back to Continuum and wanted to use my gamepad. I know most don't like them but I do. It used to work fine but now simply will not function. I see posts from others with no real answers on this. Yes I have the option enabled. Yes the pad (Logitech Dual Action) works in every other joystick game. It just won't work here. I can't get the input page to acknowledge any input from it. Is there some reason anyone can point to for this? Is there perhaps a work-around that I could edit some CFG file manually, for example, and make it work? I just 100% more comfortable with the pad over my keyboard so if it doesn't work with the pad I just can't play. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
sil Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 Curious about some information for clarity (even with it no guarantee i can help). When you say you have the option enabled, you are talking about the option under View -> keyboard/Controller Defs correct? And after that is so if you try to define controls for the gamepad it just doesn't recognize it there? I haven't tried to get a gamepad to work, but I have one laying around somewhere and I'll see if I can get it to work sometime tomorrow. Others may be able to help though too.
Agrajag Posted February 28, 2007 Author Report Posted February 28, 2007 (edited) Sil, That is all correct. It used to work, years ago, with my MS Sidewinder gamepad. I also once had it working about a year ago when I dropped in for a day or two to see how things were evolving (with the Dual Action pad). Nothing I do now can get Continuum to see the buttons. Controller properties shows all buttons reacting. MAME works fine with it. Other games I have, no problem. Continuum just acts like it's not there at all. Edited February 28, 2007 by Agrajag
sil Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 (edited) That is a bugger. I just found and plugged in my Logitech usb dual action controller. No drivers installed cause this is a fresh copy of windows XP (curses HD failure). I am curious what gamepad you are using and if it's usb or not. edit: it appears you already stated it was a Logitech Dual Action controller. That is what I am using. Looks a lot like a ps2 controller. Anyway, when you say nothing you do now can get Continuum to see the buttons. I know I already asked this before, but I just wanna make for sure we are on the same page. But if you have that checkbox checked, and then click on a def box and press the gamepad button, nothing happens? So you don't see it add the keys at all? I had to make sure the Joystic/Gamepad button was checked in order to get it to recognize anything. This attachment is a just in case the above is working for you, you need to make sure you select the definitions for your profile to use it in game. Edited March 1, 2007 by sil
Agrajag Posted March 1, 2007 Author Report Posted March 1, 2007 Sil, Once again correct on all points. It's the Logitech Dual Action. USB. No need for drivers. Under View then Keyboard/Controller Defs... I have the Joystick/Gamepad option checked. I've tried putting joystick commands in the default profile key and also in one called "joystick". For example, I'd like Button 1 on the pad to fire bullets. I press Bullet in the above section and press that button and absolutely nothing happens.
Jericho24. Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Go download the latest software from Logitech.com. There is program included called "Logitech Profiler" or so.. you can use that to map your gamepad buttons as keystrokes.

The direction pad is very jerky and that was never the case with the previous joystick support.
Guest Nex Iuguolo Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Go download the latest software from Logitech.com. There is program included called "Logitech Profiler" or so.. you can use that to map your gamepad buttons as keystrokes. Already tried that path. While it works, it's terrible. The direction pad is very jerky and that was never the case with the previous joystick support. I am using the Same controller with its Profiler. I have Programmed the D-Pad to the directional keys on the keyboard, and have programmed buttons 1 through 10 on the Joypad to "1" through "=" on the keyboard. I have also programmed the Axis Directions on the Dual Joysticks to A,B,C,D and E,F,G,H on the Keyboard. My Problem is that SubSpace/Continuum does not recognize these Programmed controls. The Game's Key input editor is recognizing the Directional inputs as "W,S,A,D" and the Button inputs as "J1, J2, J3 etc." This would not trouble me, except for the fact that The game itself does not read the input commands at all. It does not allow me to fire weapons etc (nothing happens), and when I try to move, The input commands are WSAD so it causes typing into the chat field. I used to play often, but I find the game uncomfortable on the Keyboard, so I quit. I got this Logitech Dual Action gamepad a while ago, and if I was able to use it for SubSpace/Continuum, then I would be able to play this game again. Please Help
