I've noticed on TV that some government agency did a study. Apparently, they have found that children less than the height of 4 ft 9 inches should use a carseat.

I'm just wondering what they were smoking. There are quite a few adults who are shorter than 4' 9". Should a 40 year old woman be sitting in a carseat when she's driving to pick her kids up from school?

These studies annoy me. Why? I'm a math major. These studies are carried out by ppl who have BS in Math and Statistics, and those are the types who get a lot better grades than me. I'm just saying colleges should include common sense abilities when they hand out grades, because at the moment a lot of these ppl are so smart that they are stupid.

I have often wondered where this idea came from. I know it is an EU standard that has been adopted now.

All seems like nanny state to me.

Even if there was a weight limit, I'm pretty sure an adult of < 4"9 is going to weight less than mega_shok.gif pounds.

Maybe the midgets could just equip their cars with ejection seats instead? But seriously, it does seem ridiculous. If there is really a problem with basic seatbelts for a person that big maybe some people should just think about making better seatbelts.

4'9" how much is that in cm?

Im 175cm and im not even close to a car seat.

1 inch = 2.54 cm. 1 foot = 12 inches

4'9'' = 57 inches = 144.8 cm

And the world says America is ignorant... we know your system but you don't know ours :rolleyes: just fooling.

maybe because your system is outdated and completly dumb?

(I know your system actually... being from canada, way too many people still use that archaic random-based system)

also, might want to try http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe...in+cm&meta= when you need to convert stuff...

And that 4'9" thing is just to get some money to insurance companies... like they weren't already getting enough...
