Deathmonger Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Thought I would throw these out there. I don't know much about their feasibility. Engine slowdown or shutdownWhen you are chasing a runner (especially runwinners), it would be useful to have an item to counter them. For slowdown, you would effectively attach an item to the hull of your target that slows down their thrust/speed. This item would have a time limit and be removed after x (10-15?) secs. Alternatively you could just implement engine shutdown. I know that engine shutdown greens exist in SVS so I'm thinking that might be easier to implement. In terms of delivery, this might be a new bomb (maybe an upgraded EMP) or a new field (i.e. if an enemy passes through the field they experience the slowdown or shutdown effect), or maybe even a brick. Tractor beamThe reverse repel. I know that this has been implemented in special arenas in TW (e.g. art), but I don't know if repel settings are global and you can't have both repels and tractors in the same arena. Both of these items would help slower ships (e.g. terrier) compete better.
Evil Doom Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 or to get rid of run winning, you could just make run winning illegal http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr22/3vilDoom/Evil-BW-Sig.gif
Dr Brain Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 The second isn't possible, but some form of the first might be. It's not easy to slow someone down, but an engine shut down would be a piece of cake. Freedom is the right to be wrong.
Bomook Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 As for a different kind of tractor beam, would it be possible to have a special type of brick that, when laid, prizes everyone in the near vicinity (including the user) an engines shutdown?
Dr Brain Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 You mean something like the infusion (no layed brick) that gives people a shut down prize? Yeah, that'd be fairly easy to achieve. I'm not sure if people would much like it though. Freedom is the right to be wrong.
Suicide_Run Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Is it possible to have 2 different types of reps? Like one that draws ppl in for the tractor beam and one repels for normal? I was also thinking about having a command that lays a green like ?laygreen. And when you green, you get engine shut down or something.....but is that possible? Dr Brain Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 No to both. Neither is possible. Freedom is the right to be wrong.
Deathmonger Posted February 27, 2007 Author Report Posted February 27, 2007 I'd kinda like engine shutdown as an additional effect of an EMP bomb. But a 'dampening field' would be cool too.
2d spaceship gamer Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Is it possible to make the mine button spawn a prize (green) where it is laid? If so, we could introduce "shutdown mines", when someone drops such a mine, a green is spawned, and when an enemy picks it up, they get an engine shutdown. As for the technical implementation of spawning a green: You can make an AI ship (just like vortex or fields, which are technically spawned as "ships" although they don't appear to players as such) spawn when a mine is laid, and then immediately DIE (and thus leave a green on where they died). That green would then be a shutdown. If you do not bother to read and understand the entirety of my posts, please do not bother to reply to them either.

rootbear75 Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 (edited) so? that would be good... it would be like running into a car that had crashed... you also "crash" into it. Bomook Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Except you wouldn't want to touch those prizes that are left over after legit kills. Yes, you can simply not pick them up in the center, but it'll get extremely annoying in a base.
rootbear75 Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 (edited) but that makes sense... you step into the carnage, you slow down, if even for a sec or 2....think about it .... it does make complete sense... it would get annoying, yes, but it would discourage whoring and brickwarping EDIT: bom, i revived you Edited March 2, 2007 by rootbear75 http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t54/badgersocks/FHTG/FHTG%20-%20redone%20shizniz/tgmember11.pngrootbear75> here is me nude <spoiler tag: Pervert... how many of you actually clicked this?>Samapico> I actually clicked the spoiler before reading what it was Corey> I clicked it cause i read what sama said first. darkreb0rn> I clicked it because I wanted to see you naked... rootbear75> O.o __________________________________2:IdleRPG> Mr Snuffleluphagus walked face-first into a tree. Dr Brain Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 And make basing completely impossible. Sorry, no. Freedom is the right to be wrong.
