I was thinking of a shoutcast server for SSCentral, and thought it might be nice to have DJ's scheduled from various zones throughout the game. There would obviously be rules to prevent DJ's from abusing the radio and doing nothing but promote their zone, but it might give zones some incentive to assign a DJ just to get the word out about their zone, any events, etc that are going on. I'm not saying no advertising of zones, but don't over do it (like a mp3 of nothing but someone screaming, "TRENCH WARS!! TRENCH WARS!! TRENCH WARS!!"). Maybe even hold the GS/Polix interview on the radio, as well as any other interviews.

What do you think?

Will there be a website with the track names of recently played songs? And you could make some of the shows available for download too. At least that's what I think other radio sites are doing these days.

Syrus, I'll talk to you when I get home. BJ made this awsome bot/website for MetalGear that interacts with eachother and players can request songs via in game (!request ) via chat (mgradio) or private message to the bot. They can also request songs via PM (AIM, MSN) or players can request on the website also. And the bot announces the song currently playing on the ?chat and will post it to the website.

I'll talk to him and see if we can use it for sscentral.

That part is covered on the standard web interface of a shoutcast server. I don't know what kind of radio server Syrus is going to use though.

I wouldnt use it personally, mainly for the reason that i listen to my own music while i play and i dont like listening to people on the radio, i listen for the music. You lot probably dont like the music i listen to and there would be no point in putting a request in as you can just load the song up yourself.

Is it just SSC zones? or all zones? Wouldn't it get a bit much with all the zones? Especially the young zones, if they are just starting out and their zone blows becuase they don't know how to do anything, wouldn't that be lame? They tell you to come to their zone and its the original settings. I'm just curious.

Well you don't get the point of radios then. It's for for people to listen to what other people request and thats usually how everyone finds out what they like. It's probably the reason why you like your music today smile.gif

will also make a good platform for community news to be spread from. We link it all up to sscentral and SScentral is 1 step closer to the main SS site.

Click here for the MG Radio site that freak was talking about.

Anyway, I think an SSC radio would be a brilliant way of getting inter-zone announcements across. I would listen to it for any SS news really.

However, there will be problems keeping it popular.

Personally, I would not listen to it for music. This is because I prefer to listen to either my own music, or Imperius' (when he hosts MG Radio).

I would probably not listen to it for fun either. I have MG Radio for that.

I think this could be similar for a lot of players. Once the excitement of it dies down, why would anyone want to listen?

This seems to be the problem with MG Radio at the moment. When the bot+site first came out there would be 10+ listeners (that's quite a lot) each time it was hosted. Now DJs are lucky to even get 5 listeners.

Either way I would love this idea to be implemented, even if I did only listen for news/interviews/whatever. Of course my problem is then that typically, I would miss all the interesting bits. I would like to suggest interviews and such to be recorded and archived on the corresponding site.

I guess my main point to all this is although its a great idea, before implementing it you should really think about how to keep it fresh.

P.S. Woot first post! biggrin.gif

I agree with kir. The interview would have to be archived on sscentral or something. I *think* powerball has some interviews that oldseed did archvied on their site. Anyways, it would be a GREAT thing to have if done correctly.

Yes we are still doing it but not the way it used to be since Dock> stopped hosting the shoutcast/radio server.

Especially since I'm not a host on it anymore blum.gif

sounds like a good idea

lol someone should host a call in show where players can call and act all dumb like the gta talk radio station. They could debate about stupid topics in subpsace like "If calling someone a noob, is noobish ". might be fun listening to while playing.

it's a dumb idea.. but it's an idea. I'm sure there's enough crazy ss players that could make it work.

At one point, when Skitzofreek hosted the old "MG Radio" he would call players up using Skype and such. In my mind it was pretty !@#$%^&* hilarious and worked very well for interviews and call ins. It's not a dumb idea, it works, and because it keeps lots of other players involved, it keeps them interested as well.

P.S. Poor Doosh :( Are you still sore about those Anti Doosh_Berry banners we made... that half the freakin' zone ended up wearing?
