Organizing files

  1. 1. How would you like saved files to be organized? View post for details

    • Save the lvl file where user specifies it, and add related files in a 'mapname files' folder (like CLT)

    • Have a 'mapname' folder when saving project, and save everything, including lvl, in there

    • Save every files in the same folder (useful for local servers?), with a folder for each lvz to store extracted files

    • Specify a folder for lvl files, another for cfg, another for lvz (with subfolders for extracted files)

So with lvz's, we can quite a few things saved for each map now...

 

-lvl file

-lvz files

--extracted files of each lvzs

-cfg file

 

So how should these be saved?

 

Vote for what you'd prefer, or suggest another way, and it will probably be possible to specify that in the preferences... The most voted will probably be default though.

I guess this will be for 3.1

I like the idea of a 'projects directory' then a directory with mapname to save your files into...

or u could combine a few of these options together...

 

Say in DCME's options u choose How you would like saved files to be organized?

And list 3 of the types u specified depending on a users preference/needs?

MSVC++ 6.0:

--+ src (includes mervbot src files)
 +-+Plugin1 (includes the plugins src files)
 | +-+Debug (map made by msvcpp for the compiled dll etc.)
 +-+Plugin2 (includes the plugins src files)
+-+Debug (map made by msvcpp for the compiled dll etc.)

 

For DCME it would be:

--+ DCME (includes DCME.exe and the other files)
 +-+Map1 (includes the map and compiled lvz files)
 | +-+Files (map made by DCME for the lvz included files (ini/gif/bmp/bm2/wav etc.))
 +-+map2 (includes the map and compiled lvz files)
+-+Files (map made by DCME for the lvz included files (ini/gif/bmp/bm2/wav etc.))

how about when a player starts DCME for the first time it asks you for 1 of the poll's options.

then you can click a Next button and it asks you to specifie a path or w/e that particular option needs.

something like that yes.. and it might ask for the default name to put in elvl attribute 'MapCreator', and perhaps other options that would be useful...

but just setting a few of them will also tell the player that there actually are options, and he will probably be curious to know about all available options and check them out.

I'm sure alot of people didn't even bother with options
