Cubs, I have no doubt that they had the best intentions for the zone and gave their best.

The zone got semi-active during their time here. They did however fail to keep 17th semi-active. That's what I said - not with the intention to spite them, but to explain why I might do things differently.

 

You can't say that something didn't go wrong because that's like saying 17th right now is how they intended it to be.

If they didn't fail then I wouldn't be here, they would still be running the place.

If I do things the same way they did then wouldn't I be bound to fail as well? That was my only point with those sentences, which by the way weren't aimed at just them.

 

And yeah, they hired a lot of other people that you did not include on that list. People I had never seen before.

Oh I think you midunderstand what happened. We all quit because we didn't have the time. It was after that that the pop completely dropped. There was about a 2-3 week period of limbo before anyone officially announced that they were leaving per request from Mike.

These forums barely get posted on as it is so why bother arguiung / !@#$%^&*ing about pointless things. If Delic says its not ready then its not ready just sit and wait, arguing about it isnt going to make his project go any quicker.

 

If anything we should be helping saying how good 17th is/was, telling friends, people in other zones, colleagues etc...

A big problem with 17th was that it had alot of anger in it so lets get rid of all this anger and start again.

lol why would I spam 17ths forum? I just find the whole topic funny of creating a whole essay of why zones lose population. Every zone is different from the next, and just so they all die or survive differently. It would be like writing a rule book saying "this is how to make the best zone in ss"

 

It's just funny.

VERY FIRST I'd like to point out that I DO in fact know this topic is weeks old, but I haven't checked the forums in weeks due to some bs going on in my life, and the fact that the forum is often dead anyway. So with that being said......

I could also go to other zones and try to bribe random players with a Staff position as you and Cord did, but I know that that would not help us in the long run.
Maybe I'm more picky about who I choose to work with. I don't like working with complete strangers even though I've been forced to do it one time, but I prefer to take the safe route and hire people I know are capable and reliable.

First off, Cord and I never bribed anyone. The people we hired were hired because they fit the position that needed to be filled at the time. Secondly, just because you don't know these people doesn't mean much. I may have hired guys from TW and other zones, but they were developers that I had previously worked with on other projects outside 17th. I never blindly hired anyone.

 

How do you figure they were doing something wrong? They took a zone that had 0 population (as it is now) and got 10v10+ games going a few times a week. That's not failing. And here's the staff list.

The only one I hadn't known before hand was creemy who by the way was one of your first staffers. Take off your goggles Delic.

Creemy was one of the guys from TW that I knew beforehand, and he wanted to try out being an ER instead of a developer.

Perhaps I am misreading this, and if so, ignore this response. But if it is meant to say that Delic correctly predicted that I hate Mike, both Xterr and Delic are very wrong. I had much respect for Mike and I learned a lot from him about managing zones and such.

Now, I want to let Delic know that if he needs my !@#$%^&*istance at some point, I'd gladly offer what I can. Sure, I've done some controversial things in and to the zone, but that doesn't shadow the fact that I am still a veteran developer in the game, even though I rarely play now. I left 17th in the first place because time was about to become an issue (later on it turned out that it was not, but by then it was too late to go back, hence, complex). I never gave up on the zone because it was failing. Fact of the matter is, under my watch, 17th was brought back from a 0-3 populated zone to a 20-30 populated zone running a small singles league for 10+ weeks. Things happen though, and so now I'm here hoping to see Delic become the saviour of 17th. There's no sarcasm in this. The only problem I'll have with it is all the posts we will see of Delic saying "I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG I TOLD YOU SOLD NA NA NA NOOB HA" and such. But of course, as you are Head Sysop, I would expect there to be a degree of professionalism, at least. Anyway, you probably have my msn, even if you are unaware that it is me, so if you need something, I can try to help out (I do pretty much everything but bots and ASSS stuff).

This thread should be pinned. I think all staff members (atleast sysops) from all zones, regardless of being SVS or not, should be required to atleast read the essay once every quarter of a year or so. I find it to be very good brain food for zone development and maintenaince.
