PoLiX Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Nothin on the Heatspreader? Sometimes that has some marks on it. I'll ask him again when I talk to him what brand, but he honestly doesn't remember. He bought 6 of em like 2.5yrs ago, and yea. And you positive it is faulty? Was runnin like a champ for me.
L.C. Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 Nothin on the Heatspreader? Sometimes that has some marks on it.Heatspreader was clean. If your friend put the heatspreader on, he forgot to take off the paper over the thermal compound that says "please tear it, before using." Then again it has a tear, so he followed instructions. X-P And you positive it is faulty? Was runnin like a champ for me.Memtest found over 120 errors before it even got to 7% of testing it altogether. Windows XP doesn't function much with faulty part of the RAM either, since this is really one of those most basic and simplest things. I read somewhere (not sure where) that you have to have the largest stick of RAM in a specific slot. Can anybody point something out on this? You see I have 3 slots, the first and last slot initialized for dual channel, while the middle slot is just a normal slot. I had the 1GB stick in the very center, and my other two PC3200s on the dual channel slots.

It could also be that the board doesn't like that brand of ram, but you'd realy needto know the brand of it for sure ;x
PoLiX Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 yeah. They came with heatspreaders, and normally that is torn off on them, so the factory !@#$%^&*ed that up.
L.C. Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 Ok. I tried my very first slot on the motherboard and tested the RAM through Memtest. The stick of RAM has atleast and over 22,000 errors. That's amazing. :\ What did USPS do? Run it through a magnetic device before shipping it? ;o Ok - so tomarrow I'll continue my quest and responding to these cross-forum threads in finding out who made this stick.
»Maverick Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 When googling for "TA memory" I found someone suggested to use this tool to find out manufacturer information from the memory module while it's still plugged into the computer. Have you already tried this?
L.C. Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 I was told to use a program called ASTRA32. It's a pretty good program, I could say myself. However, I can't really launch anything in Windows XP (and as soon as Windows XP starts loading my startup*, the whole thing crashes and reboots). *There's like a 30 to 60 second delay of absolute CPU ideless. Like half of my startup programs launch at first or something, then 30 to 60+ seconds later the other half starts up. Why? By attempting to launch and program, I get the blue screen of death and a reboot very quickly. I've been terribly unsuccessful in finding out the brand in the hardware of this RAM. Unless there was a software that could be launched through a bootup CD (like memtest), that might be possible. Anything within Windows XP is out of my reach.
Yoink Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 If the memory is installed, both http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php (CPU-Z) and http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php (PC Wizard) should have information on the manufacturer.

Couldn't tell for sure, but it looks like both of those have to run within the OS. He can't even run anything in Windows with it plugged in.
rootbear75 Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 does crucial.com system scanner help?
L.C. Posted February 16, 2007 Author Report Posted February 16, 2007 Crucial does not own this stick of RAM.Next on the list: Corsair does crucial.com system scanner help?I can't do that. If I have the stick installed, then..However, I can't really launch anything in Windows XP (and as soon as Windows XP starts loading my startup*, the whole thing crashes and reboots).Just can't do it.
rootbear75 Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 the crucial.com system scanner will scan your system and tell you what type of RAM you have in it.... EDIT: Nevermind... it wont tell you the manufacturer... just tried it myself... thought it did...
L.C. Posted March 21, 2007 Author Report Posted March 21, 2007 The brand-hunt is over. An anonymous user at the Subspace Server Help Forums has found the brand of the stick of RAM while looking for some DDR2 RAM on eBay. Add-On Computers is the brand. The award has been given to the anonymous user, and thank you. This thread may now be closed (locked).
