X`terrania Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 This is weird, I appear to be having the same problem as a lot of people on here. Continuum not loading, and the frantically jumping process in ctrl+alt+del. However, whenever I do a system restore an earlier date it fixes it, but then if I run any registry, etc. fixing programs it messes up again. So it can't be a driver issue... Any ideas?
Hakaku Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 If you'd bother reading the thousands of previous threads concerning Continuum not loading on Windows XP, you'd know that this is caused by anti-virus programs. These programs include firewalls, adware/spyware/trojan remover software, registry cleaners, and anything that has to do with viruses of any sort on your computer. Most firewalls don't affect how Continuum runs, but most other virus removal tools will (such as Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spydoctor, etc). What happens is that Continuum has a built-in protection security that doesn't allow it to run if modified by external programs. This was mostly implemented to prevent external cheat programs. So if you ran a virus-scan or immunized your computer before opening Continuum, Continuum will probably not load. You won't be able to disable it by Ctrl+Alt+Delete, due to Continuum jumping all over the task manager and eating up CPU. Right before your computer is shutdown, you will get an error message saying "Failed to initiate Continuum .DLL". [One way to get around this is by using the "Run as" option, highly unrecommended since you won't be able to download new files] How to fix this :1. When you first log on to your PC, open Continuum right away. It should work, unless you have all your virus scanners to auto-load before logging in to your account.2. Do not run any anti-virus programs before loading Continuum.3. If you are okay doing this, disable (and optionally uninstall) all known anti-virus, firewall, and the likes programs. - This will also help prevent future problems when loading Continuum. You can also try re-enabling them one by one to see which one(s) cause(s) the problem.4. If you already know that you ran an anti-virus program before, you're only option is probably to use "Run as". - But remember you won't be able to load any new zones or arenas you haven't previously been in. Hope this helps more or less.
