I cant get macros that include .wav files to work, just using a wav and no message, files under even 10k, ive tried everything...

and the wav has to be encoded in the right way. its probably the most space consuming encoding, but thats the way it likes. its the default encoding in sound recorder, whichever one that is.

As far as the encoding, you can use whatever format .wav (uncompressed) that you like, from 8bit mono at 11KHz to 16bit stereo at 44.1KHz. The decision should be based on the duration of your sound clip and the quality you desire for it. Always remember that the file size must be 32k or smaller in order to use it in-game.
